Hats at 'Merican?

Saw a captain rocking a black leather trench coat in MSP yesterday. He totally nailed the whole Kriegsmarine U-Boat captain look!

EDIT: Here's the visual.

I remember those at Sears as a kid. Now Sears and Kmart are part of the same corporation. Might be both.
I have some pretty fond memories of K-Mart as a kid...1. The toy aisle, 2. Those cheap ham sandwiches slathered with mustard, 3. Wandering up to the check out lines and having them page my mom because I wandered off then couldn't find her. ( happened a lot ), 4. The little cart with the blue light!

:)

Got a trench from Banana Republic that technically met the requirements. Cut different and in a more modern material than the typical Barnaby Jones 1973 variants. Usable as a stand alone coat as well and folds relatively flat.

I get my share of double-takes...and from the facial expressions it's a "ok, this guy doesn't look quite so nebbishy as usual, so what's up with that?"

I DID, however, and to my eternal shame, break down and buy a couple of pairs of "dad slacks" from the uniform place. They have the expand-o-waist waist band that is oh so comfortable for those of us with expanding means.

I see the new hires with their 26 inch waists, low riders, wide belts and groovy shoes/glasses, and I just can't compete, so I decide to just go right over the hill in one shot.

Now damn, where did I put my reading glasses?

It's the same situation as the uniform jacket really, double breasted looks better than single.
The leather one that Cptnchia posted is a perfect example, I don't like leather coats generally, but I DO like that one.

My wife is in her mid 30's and thinks leather jackets look like crap... Do you pack your white nerd balances with light washed jeans for the layovers too?

I always find it funny looking at some pilots from American companies on layover in Narita, makes them easy to spot. I normally hear them before I see them though to be honest.
