Hats at 'Merican?

Is that a grease reference?

Seriously? I don't see the :sarcasm: tag, but there's no telling with you kids these days.

On the chance that you actually have no clue what Derg is alluding to, I present you this:

I'm glad hats are optional. When I see the guy I'm flying with is wearing one it lets me know what I'm in for. [emoji52][emoji379]

I'm a recent team hat member, he approves. Although I don't approve of the giant red line it leaves across my forehead.

'Team Hat'??? What do you mean by this? Does that describe pilots who are hipsters? E-180 pilots are part of 'team hat' only? I don't get it.

I'm way less biased against the leather jacket because the ones we had at Northernjets were simple leather jackets with no bling patches. Just a couple of tabs for epauletts. Once you popped those off, it was just a garden variety leather jacket...that happened to be really warm and didn't require dry cleaning.

Might not be a big deal on a 767, but on the DC-9, with a sliver of a closet (and no closet in the 717), juggling a blazer and an overcoat for 2 peeps was an exercise in comedy. Plus no packing an EXTRA coat in your already stuffed rollerbag. Folded up, it made a very tolerable pillow.

And some of the places you went were really, really cold...like Saskatoon.

Plus it was a damn nice Gibson and Barnes jacket. Fortunately they're suitable for wear in the real world, so I kept mine (there was some embroidery, but it was on the inside).

I've seen far, far worse fashion faux pas with the "approved" uniform.

If it's approved to wear with the uniform and worn properly, then who gives a rats rear end. For me the leather jacket is functional and makes packing easy, but it isn't approved at my new shop. Therefore I won't wear it unless something changes. I could take or leave the hat. It looks sharp when maintained and worn properly. If it's required, I'll wear it. If not, I likely won't but that's because I commute and it's just one more thing to tote along and get lost or ruined.

Erhm, no, more of a joke aka humor. I'd say most of the guys at this shop that wear the hat catch a lot of light hearted crap for it.

Are they optional where you work? Because I'm saying if a guy chooses to wear one when he doesn't have to.
I'm at Southernjets, so, NO. But some still don't wear them. Don't care. The ones I have an issue with are the ones who walk around with it in their hands, so when accosted by the Hat Police, they can quickly put it on. If you are going to make a statement, have the stones to back it up. Leave the hat at home and tell the HP to go shove it.

I actually just started recently wearing the hat. Still not sure how I like it, but I told myself I'd give it a try. I do notice I get asked a lot more questions by random people in the airport when I wear it...

Haaaaargh. Aaaaaaaaaaargh. Graaaaaaaassrgh. Haaaaaaaaargg glaaaaargh.

Better? :)

Reminds me of the 3 stranded teens we had on the mountaintop at the fire station where I was pulling a shift the other week. Were stuck in snow and had to wait with us for their tow truck to arrive. Anyhow they're talking about the new Star Wars movie and couldn't remember the name of the new character that hung out with Han Solo. I said "Chewbacca?". They answer yes. I say, "he's been there from day one, what makes you think he's a new character?" And I'm told "because he's a rookie, so he's new then, right?"
