AirTran/SWA Seniority Integration Deal

Didn't those guys have to re-interview for their jobs?

Whoah. Isn't saying "Period" before a "." or even at all at the end of a sentence redundant? Apologies in advance! :)

Muse Air was wonderful. It was almost like the Midwest Express of its day - all one class if I recall, very nice service, and they had a cool livery. I flew them a couple times when I was a kid.

Because they'll lose out in the end if they do.

This isn't 'Nam, there are rules.
. ALPA will roll over as usual. Why do you think they "negotiated" regional lift at AirTran. Pathetic.

I am willing to bet ALPA won't be there when ATN pilots need it most.

Are you leading the charge to decertify your union yet, or are you just being a keyboard ninja this morning?

I'm about done with ALPA since they made a clerical error and asked me to pay 30% more dues for the year.

I'm not unhappy with the structure in place with our local council (though electing a guy to MEC Chair that the DTW pilots successfully recalled blows my mind).

If we could have a local union with our money staying with XJ/9L/9E pilots I would be very happy. Especially since according to mainline brethren at SWA "negotiate for yourself".

You are the foremost authority on questioning leadership decisions. Why aren't you appalled that a new scope sale occurred and the ATN MEC endorsed it?

ALPA needs to be fixed badly, and my wasted $2/mo for the PAC won't help. We need a REAL national UNION. National should never sign contracts that have cutthroat pay scales and/or scope problems that allow whipsaw at any level. Where are NATIONAL CRJ200 rates? Or 50 seat rates? All 50 seat operators should pay the same.

Right. How much are you guys paying in dues, again?

So it's YOUR GUYS that are a-ok, but everybody else sucks? Gotcha.

Then go make it happen and stop complaining on the internet.

I don't question decisions that other locals make because I don't work there. I'm in no position to critique what I don't understand, where I don't know the full story. I don't assume they're idiots right off the bat, I assume I don't have all the data.

You know guys say crap like this, and then don't do a thing about it. Not, one, thing. Me? I think the system works pretty well. You obviously don't, but you haven't lifted a finger to change things.

Or said another way, tits or GTFO. Man up, holmes.

Percentage-wise, same as you. 1.95%. I recieved a letter stating that due to a change in my 2010 dues obligation (how long has it been since 2010 by the way), that they want $167.08 MORE, within 30 days. I apparently was supposed to pay $762.54 for the year.

After notifying my membership services rep, I received a revised bill stating that my 2010 "obligation" was $595.21, and that I paid $595.46, no adjustment being necessary. I'm happy to say that they are now refunding me a quarter of my overpaid dues, which ALPA considered a $0 balance.

So it's YOUR GUYS that are a-ok, but everybody else sucks? Gotcha.

What has National done for you lately, except publish some self-important yet worthless magazine?

Pot to kettle, come in.

Why not? For a national union to have relevance, everyone who is a member needs to be on the same page? You can't possibly say that if DALPA thought the most financially beneficial move would be to scope out 100 seat jets, you would not question their local decision?? I would be livid.

You don't know me then, John.

I ran for LEC FO Rep in ATL when I was told to put up or shut up. I ran a poor write-in campaign for LEC Sec/Tres in DTW. Because I'm so outspoken at how poorly some folks do their jobs at the local level, I was told to put up or shut up. Yet, when I volunteered for ANY committee, I was stonewalled because I'm too much of a political liability due to my strong opinions. Catch-22 much? I had a JC member put his political ALPA "career" on the line to put me into a volunteer slot. I've been a P2P Rep since I was ATL based. I'm a PAC Volunteer.

I am certainly trying.

I am going to attend LEC meetings to get my next item on the agenda: MEC positions should be voted on by the pilots. In fact, National positions should be voted on by the dues-payers. I don't trust the political system to properly sort out who needs to be in charge without my direct input. You know as well as I do that many Reps look toward the ultimate ALPA position. Tough to get if you don't play the politics. Those positions are too important to have LEC/MEC/National politics influence them.

After the ALPA/TWA debacle this will be an interesting thing to watch. USAir pilots certainly reacted against ALPA...TWA just won a huge judgement against ALPA and now SWAPA seems to be putting them in short-pants. It will be interesting to watch what occurs with ALPA. Given that SWAPA, APA, IPA and other in-house unions seem to do a nice job and the hits ALPA takes it will be interesting to see if they survive.

Your solution is obvious.

De-certify the union.

If enough other people are pissed off, you'll be successful.

Based on some of the minor skirmishes occurring as a result of the ISL for XJ/9L/9E, I think support for one list at XJT/ASA/SKW will wane enough whereby it remains separate. The Compass folks who were purchased by TSH want nothing to do with a single list.

I don't drink the company or the ALPA koolaid, it's very refreshing to not bother with the BS.

According to some pilots at SWA, Management may be looking at dumping the ATN pilots onto the street if they make too big of a fuss. It has happened before. It can happen again. If that is the case a US Airways/America west would be preventable. Would definitely suck for ATN pilots though.

My dad told me that Herb (who's no longer involved in the day to day operations) personally flew to Atlanta to tell the AirTran pilots that if they didn't get on board with a deal he would furlough all of them and sell off their assets. Which is harsh but understandable when you build a company based on happy employees.

How?

Cause that'll keep your company full of happy employees! Lol
