I'm surprised nothing has been communicated, yet to the pilot group.... Oh, wait... No, I'm not.
I happened to stop by the office today, a place I have joyfully been absent from for a little bit of time to enjoy a lunch with friends.
Oddly enough, our office secretary (great lady btw) sees me and asks me (you know, Vice Chairman of the Communications committee) if we were going to send anything out.
Now, to be clear, as I expressed earlier - this woulda been a subject that - if I was working on their behalf at present, our pilots would have been told the union is working with the Company to find a prompt solution and apologize for the hardship this may have caused. However, the MEC Vice Chairman decides what is communicated to the pilots. Any sense of public relations independence of the Comm committee has been removed and replaced by a one man decision maker who gets to decide when something is communicated to our pilots...odd. But hey, that's the leadership style and person this pilot group, through YOUR ELECTED LEC Reps two years ago, placed to serve as MEC Vicd Chairman.
Now, though, you must realize that my organizational communication philosophy is one of prompt, honest, transparent, thorough communication to our members. A philosophy I, and my counterpart, attempted to improve upon over the last three years.
Unfortunately, as you can tell - leadership does not share this and they also did not support such improvements.
Hilariously, the Facebook page I developed and launched with this MEC over three years ago has been a very silent social media tool due to MEC Leadership's failure to embrace social media. Now, it appears, they want to use my hardwork...but not my knowledges, skills, or abilities to actually develop a highly successful social media campaign, rather all they want is the username and password.
I can't help but find great joy in their desire to take something I developed and sold for their own use. Yet, they would rather not use a train strategic communicator to accomplish these goals.
So....in the end, since "the company sent an email out" the union will also not communicate, according to the MEC Vice Chairman that our office secretary contacted to find out if we (The Association) would be saying anything - considering pilots are calling the office wanting to know - for once - what exactly the Union is doing to fix the Company's screw up.
Hope you guys are enjoying the leadership your Reps put into place nearly two years ago. And, I might add, are coming up for re-election by members of the MEC (LEC Officers). So, if you don't like the leadership at the MEC level - you may want to stand up and take this Union back. Additionally, if you don't like the leadership at the local level for selling you this TA, might I recommend taking back your LEC with strong participation and vocal communication. Build a collective with members of this pilot group that are like minded and willing to stand up for what is right, with a vision of the future that includes an honest, transparent, thorough communication philosophy that builds cohesion and gains support from the pilot group...for the ultimate success of this pilot group.
I am embarrassed for this MEC to be sitting on the sidelines with the technical knowledge and skills I hold that could have helped them. Unfortunately they selected a different route and would like to just use the work I have created for their own, poorly planned, strategic means that satisfy their (rather than YOUR) desires for this pilot group.
Enjoy!
