Woman claims Southwest Airlines worker discriminated against her (another Fattie)

So ahh...guys? I'm the complete opposite of everything you're talking about.

I swam for 8 years, 4 years doing club 4 years doing my high schools swim team. I would swim 3 hours a day, 5 days a week for a few months. Know how much weight I lost? Zero pounds. Know how much weight I put on from muscle mass? Zero pounds.

Now I sit at home, eat twinkies all day long, drink as much beer as I possibly can and I can't bust 155 lbs. if I bust ass trying (I'm 5'10" BTW).

So there's a shot in the "if you work out enough you can change your body" argument.

I'm a former competitive powerlifter. I did some of the local contests at my old college and when I started I was in the third class lightweight division at 140lb. soaking wet with no gear. I was strong as heck in the 1rm lifts for my weight then at 17-19yrs age but didn't gain a single pound. A big part of gaining any lean mass(muscle) is in the diet, especially if you're involved in lots of physical activity and have an ultra fast metabolism. I've been doing some bodybuilding for the past three years or so focusing on the core compounds like squats, deadlifts, weighted dips, bent presses as well as adding some auxiliary isolation work(curls, extensions, and the likes) Couple that with a diet rich in protein, moderate in complex carbs, and plenty of essential fats with a slight(not major) surplus in calories. Give it at least 6 months and you will gain at least ten pounds of pure muscle mass, more if you're a newbie lifter.

The problem with most people with fast metabolisms not gaining weight is that they are not eating enough calories to start with. They thought they were eating a surplus of calories but turns out those twinkies all amounted to only 3000 calories a day. That would seem like a heck lot for the average joe but 3,000 a day really isn't enough for a lot of those lean, fast metabolism, or skinny guys working out. Add a few hundred to those 3,000 per day and it really goes a long way. When I was bulking, I stuffed it around 3800-4200 calories per day , 7 days a week with 5 days of lifting. I don't do that anymore since I've leveled off. Some people need more, some need less.

Strength endurance work like swimming obviously involves you to eat a heck lot more to gain weight. WIth no increase in calorie consumption comes no increase in weight. You didn't lose weight because the calories, along with your energy expenditure activities(swimming, walking up stairs, running, etc.) was enough for you to maintain. Swimming isn't ideal for building muscle but can build some mass in the shoulders/lats/traps area initially, if and only if you were shooting those calories down your stomach. It's all energy balance in the end. The argument of some guys not being able to gain weight doesn't exist , unless we're talking about guys with digestion/metabolism problems.

How to work out, the Fat Batard Way

"I'll count the cadence, you'll count the repetitions."

:)

with Loyd providing cadence count.

1. Obtain twinkies
2. Unwrap Twinkies
3. Eat Twinkies like you've never seen food before.
4. Repeat until satisfied (approx. 6 boxes or more.

works well with other food stuffs too, cakes, donuts a whole damn COW!!

JOIN THE N.A.A.F.P. THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF FAT PEOPLE.........

AND NO FAT CHICKS!!

(LOL)

You're spot on. My upper back/shoulders look like they could eat small children to this day (partially from doing the marching percussion thing I imagine), but the rest of me is pretty...uhm....twigly.

The ignorance displayed in this thread amazes me ('cept for our resident •tard Chris Ford, I expect it from him anymore).

Lloyd and Max, it wasn't too long ago that people of your heritage had trouble getting a drink of water without being hassled. Max, people of your persuasion are still hassled daily. What if enough customers complained about blacks or gay people being on their flight? What if SWA decided to charge you extra simply for being black or gay? While they'd have a serious legal problem on their hands for racial discrimination, it's still open season on homosexuals in this country (and for that matter, most others on the planet), and SWA could very likely get away with a "queer surcharge" for you're simply not a protected class.

I also debate the point that when you buy a ticket, you're merely leasing x number of cubic inches/feet for the duration of the flight. If this were the case, overbooking would be illegal since you've leased that space whether you're in it or not. On the contrary, what the air carriers sell is carriage--that is, transport of an individual from point to point.

I'd be interested to learn how many SWA pax have sued over this COS policy, and what the outcomes of those suits were.
Them are fighting words. Chris, I got your back!! The funny part about all these people getting upset with you is that these are the same people throughout the years who would proclaim "If you are going to be in this biz then you need to get some thicker skin." HA!!!! It's actually pretty entertaining to watch grown men act like 8 year olds with fire ants in their ass crack.

Oh yeah, no more second helpings of biskets and gravy for that sow.

I like how everyone in this thread that uses words like 'fattie' and phrases like 'just work out' are all probably under 30.

Just wait, guys! ;)

I think everybody should play hockey :-P. When I played 5 times a week in high school, I could eat anything I wanted and I was 121 lbs (and 5'9"). Probably would have been more if i wasn't a goalie and needed to work on the weights a bit more. But as soon as I stopped playing that often, up to 155.

Aww, come on, you goalies are always looking for ways to take up more space!:)

Starting to get "the spread" are we?

I got the furniture disease. That's where your chest falls in to your drawers.

John H I know exactly what you mean. I can increase or decrease my physical activity and it doesn't do a thing.

I renewed my FAA medical yesterday: 6'1" and 130 pounds. Same as it was two years ago.

I always made the argument that people who are overweight have nobody else to blame but themselves. Surely they could lose it and get back down to normal. I no longer agree with that in all cases.

At some point in the last five years, I realized I was on the same point on the other side of the bell curve! (well I guess it's not quite a bell with there being more overweights than underweights, but you get the idea). For every person out there like me or John H or whoever else can eat 5,000 calories of food all day long and not gain a pound, there's someone out there who can practically starve themself and not be able to get their weight all the way down to what is normal.

I would draw the line somewhere, though. At perhaps 20%, 30%, 40% etc. over the recommended weight for height/age/gender the excuse of genetics goes away until they are back down to within a particular range.

If your simply making a point that blacks and gays are or have fought for their right to equal freedoms & protections then okay I can see you using that reference.
Good, cuz that's what was intended. :)

Interesting that no one's chosen to comment on my thoughts regarding leasing space on a flight vs. contracting for carriage.

I want to discuss it, Aloft, but let's just say I've been "turned off" to this thread like I NEVER have before . . .

Lloyd where in this thread is there any proof of racial discrimination?

If there is a 300+ lb person next to me in a plane I don't care about skin color.

Black, white, brown, red, blue or whatever, just get yer damn skin off of me!
