WN career fair 9/24

So annoying. They first advertised they were going to open it yesterday. Apparently they had compliance issues and it was set to open this am. The not giving out times to anybody on when the window is going to be open different days is pretty inconsiderate. I'll pass.

The entire hiring process at all of the "career" airlines is indeed a farce.

Well, to add as an update-

On the site now-
"Thank you for your overwhelming response to the Job Fair Registration. Registration for the event is complete"

Also, when you try to update your profile, you cant at the moment:
"Profile management is currently disabled"

Can't request a spot for the event, nor update a profile it would seem.

Someone from my shop was sort of bragging about being able to sign up for a slot despite not meeting the minimum qualifications. They may have been trolling, not sure.

Dangerous stuff if the team is grumpy that day.

Or maybe that shows he's just the type of initiative-taking go-getter they're looking for. Who the hell knows these days.

I just have to wonder what motivates SWA to have such an event in the current hiring climate. Certainly the breaking-the-internet response over the last two days shows that there's not a shortage of people who want to be on the SWA seniority list.

So, what's the real deal?

I think it's a good idea and more companies should adopt these types of events. Alaska and United have done similar events in the past and they have been great for a lot of pilots. We have members on this site that have benefited from the more personal job fairs and while it's a pilots market it is also a major airline market. Just my .02 but they do serve a purpose.

I have a suspicion but i'll keep it to myself for the time being..

(Mama said if i don't have anything nice to say...)

Errrr, I think my friend would disagree with this perspective.

Of course I would hope so, but like I said: "who knows".

I'm in the camp that couldn't register for a slot. I live local, meet the qualifications, have a current app on file and I even happened to have the day off. I'm pretty bummed that I came up empty handed after a day-and-a-half of refreshing a webpage. I'd feel better with the knowledge that everyone who was able to register actually received the invitation like myself but as I understand it anyone off the street could register for a slot with no login required.

Do we still do meet ups in major cities? I didn't care before, but now that I live in a major city might be cool.

I can assure you that they're re-vamping the system and reading this thread to make it better.

There are numerous potential "solutions". But the Powers-that-Be need to agree that a revamp is in order. Does the Emperor actually have clothes in this case or is the frustration on the front lines valid?

I'm not sure if I am making this up but I read somewhere that regardless of meeting the mins, anyone is welcome to reserve a spot. Is this true?

Yes. Meeting the mins was NOT required for the event.

I don't disagree -- the two ViBs I went to I think gave attendees great insight into jB and hopefully gave the company a closer look at some great candidates.

With how disorganized this whole process was and how suddenly it came and went, me thinks this might be leverage against SWAPA.

"Look how many pilots want to work here! Why, our servers crashed with people just DYING to line up. You should all be grateful to have a job!"

I think you may be onto something here although it smells of something the big "3" would pull and not Southwest.
