What aviation watch would you pick if money wasn't a issue

I have two and love them both. Omega Speedmaster and a Ball Aviator GMT. The ball is usually what ends up being the work watch since its less dressy and half the price. I highly recommend either. No I did not buy them for what they cost but for their mechanics and lineage. People can easily spend as much on cigs, boose, and chicks over a few years. These I'll give to my children's children.

I like your style - good watches ;)

IWC Big Pilot is my favorite aviation watch.

I also have a Citizen Nighthawk. Great Watch. Its my everyday beater. Never needs a battery and is very durable.

Personally I love watches, especially any mechanical movement watch.

Re: What aviation watch would you pick if money wasn't a iss

Never saw the point in spending more than around 500 bucks on a watch. I picked up a Citizen Nighthawk for around 250, has an E6-B built in and everything. So far so good.

Yep I have the citizen too. I didn't slurge on the titanium but it is still a sweet watch, lifetime warranty and the ECO Drive is awesome. I love never having to worry about changing batteries

If I could afford it, Breitling. I can't. Oh well...

Anyone want to spot me a few grand?

I like the "Airman" series from Glycine. The one pictured here is the Airman 17. I've had an Airman 1 since 1979. I just like the 24 hour face, and it's great for multiple time zones.

Are you an Astronaut?

Need to move some of these posts to a new thread "Watches for Nancy pilots.."

:D

Re: What aviation watch would you pick if money wasn't a iss

Brietling for work. TheOne for play.

Yes, I'm a geek. Wanna fight about it? :)

Colgan FO was telling me how 30 of their pilots all chipped in for a Breitling; and each of them gets to wear it one day a month....

Re: What aviation watch would you pick if money wasn't a iss

Revue Thommen Airspeed for the pilot. My backup is a dive watch. Breitling (in gold no less) for the bride. The bride's backup is a Movado.

OK--disclaimer, the bride's sister worked for Torneau. So, it's free batteries forever.

Re: What aviation watch would you pick if money wasn't a iss

Wow alot of responses so quickly. I was looking into the Breitling Aerospace/Emergency and the X33 from Omega. I've been leaning on the X33 if I can find one because I've haven't heard anything bad about them. The Breitling to me seems not as usable/just paying for the name. Only problem with the X33 is it wouldn't look as nice with a suit or something like that. Decisions decisions.

I also have an Airspeed, the Chronograph (the one with the Rega Agusta in the back). Do you have an automatic? Back when I bought mine you could only have the quartz....

The Emergency is really bulky, I can`t wear it with a long sleeve dress shirt, unless you get them custom made...in both watches the Aerospace and the Emergency the features in the little screens suck and you can`t see the digits at night, the copilot bracelet looks stupid if you have a tiny wrist. I always used the rubber one...as I mentioned before you will have to pay for MX on the emergency every two year (I think the 1st time is free but I`m not sure)

Do some research on the X33 as they made a couple of different versions. The second generation models seem to be the most coveted. I see about one a week pop up on the timezone.com sales corner and they get snatched up pretty quickly.

Re: What aviation watch would you pick if money wasn't a iss

I have a Tag Heuer Formula 1. It's not an aviation watch, but its Swiss, and holds up to a lot of abuse. I wear it in the cockpit and I wear it during my day job as an HVAC technician, and it's rock solid. I especially love the sapphire crystal, not a single scratch. You can get it for around $800... http://www.jomashop.com/tag-heuer-f1-mens-watch-cah1112-ba0850.html They make the same watch with different color faces, I just chose the red one...

I also own a titanium Citizen Skyhawk, which would be a perfect aviation watch, except the cheap crystal gets scratched easily by bumping into things in the cockpit. So I don't wear it that often, the scratches drive me crazy.

This is my Breitling Cosmonaute, it's very thin (offered by my folks for my Commercial). It's a giant stereotype but it has a true aviation legitimity and I just love it.

Re: What aviation watch would you pick if money wasn't a iss

Freaking pilots and their jewelry.

If money is no object, then I would buy a C750 and use the digital clocks in there, as well as the optional stopwatch (says Bad Mothertrucker on it) on the yoke. If I ever need the time I'll go into the plane and look at the time.

Also the plane would come with an embarrassingly large stock of mid-grade whiskey and a supply of Pepsi and diet Pepsi. That way, I can drink while I check out the time and work in my gigantic workshop/garage/hanger and attached house.

1997 quartz; titanium case with black Arabic face and metal bracelet. Yes it has the Rega Agusta in the back. It's a very nice watch.

Breitling Emergency

Pawn stars bought a Breitling Emergency last night from a guy. Just thought it was interesting since it seems we just had a long discussion about them.
