Stunning!
That ain't it.
Haha I was being funny when I was asking if YOU would do it, commuting across the country for years I'd much rather walk to work. The only reason I want out of XJT is because commuting is making me hate flying. I think if I walked door step to door step it would take 15 mins. Driving less than 2 mins. Can you ride your bike in the snow/rain/summer humidity during the dark of night in uniform with your overnight and flight bag? And make the required response call out time?
I live in Van Buren Twp and fly for a competitor, so can't answer some of your other questions, but the bike is a giant no. And even if it's day VFR when you're called, who knows what it will be when you return.

It is really nice only driving 3 minutes to work, 4 if there is heavy traffic; but living your life, every hour of every day, with the fear that you might be getting called, and in 20 minutes having to work 18+ hours...
My thing is I'm 5 numbers from being back on reserve. So it goes by block days off/on right? So would it be better to stay in a crash pad for 4-5 days waiting for my phone to ring, or sit on my couch? I read 13 days off is the minimum. So those are hard days off correct (non- phone liable) and any other day not called is just a day I can be a couch potato?
I'm not a USA Jet guy, but I've lived a similar lifestyle. I don't know about their minimum days off or hard days, but ad hoc freight is ad hoc freight. When you're on call, they own you. It all depends on you. If you're a person who loves sitting around their house watching TV, or has tons of projects around the house that can be dropped at a minute's notice, then yes, probably better than XJT reserve. I enjoy being outside, mountain-biking, visiting friends who live more than 20 minutes away. I live on a lake 3 minutes away from the airport. There were definitely days in the summer I was on call, getting my salary, while sitting on a boat. All my neighbors were envious, especially in June when I didn't fly for close to a month. But to me, on call with 20 minutes notice still was work, I could do some things, but not most things. For me it was house arrest.
Didn't know the feds were still issuing the 125 cert...I thought they were killing most of them off.
What's the difference between 121 and 125?
and has few limitations on flight and duty
