US Navy ship shoots down first aircraft since it shot down an airliner

It’s heavy. But once you’re over the learning curve, it’s literally the only space game worth playing… besides NMS.
I have DCS and the Tomcat - speaking of learning curves - which I just didn't really have the correct flight control hardware for; that thing really needs you to have actual rudder pedals.

Maybe I'll give Elite another shot in the new year. That DLC I texted you about looks intriguing, kind of like what Star Citizen (noted vaporware) aspires to be, maybe.

Star Citizen, at best, is going to be Elite Dangerous Part Deux.

Elite is more like “So. You’re in a Galaxy, in a star system, maybe on a ground station or a space station. What did you want to do? Mining, sabotage, murder, larceny, protector, Deliver like UPS Truck, bounty hunt? Help people? Wet work? What sounds good?”

I literally just told you I’d let you know.

Unless, of course, you’re going to tell me the rules on my own website, I mean that’d be as darling as Shirley Temple singing “I’m a li’l teacup”

I don’t think there’s any scenario where you’d care about my opinion. And that’s ok. When you talk about someone, they may respond to you even if you weren’t talking to them.

Sometimes, albeit not too often. I mean I replied to this message so that’s a ‘win’ isn’t it? Are there points?

Ive used JC for many years but finding out that derg plays Elite has absolutely made my day. O7.

One wonders how many of those ships are US flagged. Probably approximately zero. Seems like the nations whose flags the ships carry ought to bear the primary responsibility.
International waters and all probably covers our part but that doesn’t fit your narrative. But that’s cool.

what narrative do you suppose that would be?

Im just saying that gigantic shipping corporations that want to pay Liberia taxes and have Liberia safety/labor laws, should also get Liberia military power to protect their assets. Seems pretty fair.

I’d think that some of these shopping companies would at least like to invest in onboard contractor security teams for shipboard defense when sailing through these higher threat areas.

I'd love to simulate in your command seat, it sounds like you've spent a lot of money to simulate childhood fantasies. But I have to ask why? Growing up in the Central Valley was rough I'm sure but I'd guess your fantasy back then might've been to be a captain at a major airline with a loving wife and a nice home and being able to choose to just go to your wife's favorite restaurant for dinner at a moments notice without a care for the expense. Now 30 years later you've achieved your dream and you spend time in another fantasy? You complain you're busy but you're also a big fan of games like NMS?

I’m fairly sure they do, but from what I understand it’s more to deal with the long standing pirate threats there and other places than this.

I've always thought the same thing but maritime law makes it prohibitively inconvenient and expensive as a result. It's not impossible but it cuts into profits.

Go do some laser mining in Elite Dangerous. I might do some of that on the Steam Deck in a bit.
The last expansion sucked for me, since VR was my thing. I need to try it again and see if they've fixed anything, but they really gave VR users the middle finger—and considering how freaking amazing the game was in VR, that kinda hurt.

A cargo ship would need to unload their protection detail offshore along with all of their equipment onto a smaller ship before entering a port and then reload on the way out. I agree that ships should be able to defend themselves with something a bit more lethal than a water cannon against pirates with RPGs but international maritime law assumes everyone's a good guy.
