US Navy ship shoots down first aircraft since it shot down an airliner

I do. I have to hold my nose sometimes when I do, knowing where some of it goes, but the reality is that it’s pay for access.
With the balance of power yo-yoing back and forth you just have to accept the realpolitik of watching your money go to whatever side you disagree with. Unfortunately so many at my shop make everything a zero sum political game in their head and can’t see past that.

I’m a firm believer in using the last few digits of my paycheck to defend and protect the first ones.

Oh, I know.

I’m still not looking forward to the next four years, and I dislike my union’s political arm helping people that are, my own immediate economic interests aside, either mildly or wildly opposed to my values.

WSJ runs articles periodically about sailors getting stranded on ships by their dirtbag owners in garden spots world wide with no pay, no food or supplies, no travel status on a ship with mostly non-functioning heat or AC.

That’s what flags of convenience gets you.

You have a really bad memory or just pay 0 attention to what’s going on around you. Generally, when one starts lobbing missiles at various nations cargo and military vessels one should expect a response.

What he does not hear does not exist, which is why he’s so vulnerable to misinformation.

Quite honestly, the generational shift away from teaching critical thinking skills and zero bad-feeling history in the schools, there is a growing population of people that are pridefully ignorant of the world around them.

Again, not our problem. I’d be okay paying higher costs for goods as they are shipped around Africa or across the Pacific to the west coast in order to avoid the Red Sea and the Suez canal.

Yemen is not our fight. See that cargo ship being harassed? Whatever flag is on that ship, let that country enter the international waters of that area with their armed forces and start taking care of business.

Or don’t.

I only have one ask. Next time a 9/11 type of attack happens, please don’t insult my intelligence by telling me we were attacked because we are a “free nation” and a country “that loves freedoms.”

No. No, that’s not why we got attacked.

@Cherokee_Cruiser - Just to save some typing for you next time, I’ll certainly let you know when I am requesting your opinion.

Notice I was talking ABOUT you but not TO you? Ha!

You talk about me, you get a response. It’s how this works. Don’t want an opinion? Don’t opine about someone.

Go do some laser mining in Elite Dangerous. I might do some of that on the Steam Deck in a bit.
Today is "do the things I've been putting off because I'm about to be gone for two weeks and in the interim the future inlaws are visiting so remember that 'thing' you promised A. you'd take care of before disappearing? that's today" day. I also have a Secret Santa Zoom thing later with, believe it or not, my gang of nerdy kids in middle/high school. (I guess you could call us a gang, though we didn't have signs or anything. Just electronics.)

Elite has been tough for me to get into seriously. It's in my library, but my first brushes with it were "eh, I have a flying job already and this kinda feels like work a bit."

Been driving my Formula 1 sim a bit with the new wheel, and working through Star Wars: Fallen Order lately (only so I can play Jedi Survivor; Fallen Order is pretty miserable controls-wise).

It’s heavy. But once you’re over the learning curve, it’s literally the only space game worth playing… besides NMS.
