United Airlines Not Playing Around on Vaccine Mandate

And if you don’t want to get vaccinated, you don’t have to be employed by a large employer. It’s the same thing. This isn’t a “freedom” question. Which is why your post above extolling your virtues as a supposed centrist falls flat.
The ability to travel and the ability to maintain an otherwise stable job and put food on your family’s table are orders of magnitude different.

If this forum is decidely a blue forum, then APC and Propilotworld are both decidedly red. Possibly you're hanging your hat there more, not an attack. We as people tend to gravitate toward those with like minds as ours. I truly do not believe that there is an airline forum that is truly centric on either side of the political spectrum.

I think APC is the people who stormed the Capitol:bounce:

Jc is pretty centric. We’ve only got like one or 2 literal socialists and a few more that like to poke fun at the absurdity that the American “free market” has become. The thing is the Overton window in the US is so far right that that even Todd would get called a socialist because he’s pro union.

True, and an imperialist. But I don't think that he's an imperialist anymore this week. :D

It’s really not at all. You aren’t entitled to a job anywhere.

It’s funny, around here I get accused of being a secret Republican, and among my real estate friends I’m constantly called a commie. :bounce:

I agree. But it’s one thing for individual businesses to mandate that and another altogether for the federal government to mandate it. It’s disparaging, to be frank. More than half of unvaccinated Americans live in households that make less than $50,000 annually, according to the latest Census Bureau data.

The very people who aren’t getting vaccinated are the same ones that work in the service, construction, production, sales, and many other industries. There’s a reason businesses are concerned by this mandate. It will very likely serve to further exacerbate a shortage of labor across almost all industries.

I actually just read earlier today that most business leaders are quietly supporting the mandate. They see it as the way to finally get covid behind us so that demand can return to normal.

The government mandates workplace safety all the frickin’ time. We literally have an entire government agency that is devoted to it. It’s been around for half a century, and a Republican signed the legislation that created it.

Sorry, but the “muh freedumbs” argument doesn’t work here. Unless you also argue against every other rule that OSHA has. Which means we’ll be back to sweatshop conditions.

There are literally people out there who do think that. Probably more than you’d expect. Although after the last 5 years maybe you wouldn’t be surprised anymore. Dude I went to college with thinks that things like requiring commercial truckers to have insurance and some basic level of road worthiness for their vehicles is government overreach.

of course the same dude is virulently anti union and doesn’t understand why the jobs he keeps taking are so crappy so….

Not the ones I’ve spoken to and do business with. Healthcare is already at a tipping point and many local hospitals are concerned that mandating the vaccine will push out even more nurses that much faster. 2 of the larger commercial construction companies I know are extremely worried.

I doubt your anecdotes are indicative of the average business of over 100 employees.

Nurses have had mandatory vaccines for decades. Getting a covid vax shouldn’t even be a discussion for patient contact healthcare workers.

In laments terms it did.
I don’t know what that sentence means.
If I were to ask you in 2019 if you had been vaccinated against small pox you probably would have said, “yes”. Implying that you can’t get small pox anymore because you’ve been vaccinated.
“Cure” means to make the disease and symptoms go away after you catch the disease. You are describing what vacines do and conflating it with a “cure”.
But from the outset the government touted a vaccine as some miracle cure.
Nope. Never happened.

Yet it is for some (admittedly a minority). The problem with healthcare is unbelievably complex however... Vaccines are needed to keep people out of hospitals. Keeping people out of hospitals is the real battle, not preventing a relatively small number of the infected from succumbing to the virus. And as I noted above, many aren’t getting vaccinated.

It’s not complex. Get vaxxed or stay the • away from patients.
