A single-engine plane crashed and burst into flames in the woods near a Suffolk County airport Sunday morning, killing two of the three people on board, authorities said.

The small vintage propeller aircraft, which was built in 1948, was practicing takeoffs and landings at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach when it crashed into a bank of trees near one of the county-run airport’s three runways.

The Navion F crashed at 11:40 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

A third person, identified by Newsday as Richard Rosenthal, had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. Rosenthal was the owner of plane, Newsday reported.
