Troubled Freight Pilot

Boris is right on this. There is the letter of the law and then their is the real world application of it.
Well, he is and he isn't.

Yes, there's "real world" (illegal) vs "letter of the law" (legal). Where I think he's wrong is where it needs to be changed.

The feds aren't going to make a whole bunch of changes unless it becomes a safety issue. The problem is, if you start bending metal, they'll still just slap the company and suspend your ticket.....and you still get to lose your job.

Where it needs to changes is from the ground up! If people would stop putting up with this crap just "to have a job", then the companies couldn't survive on it. The weak ones that depend on it would go out of business and the strong ones would get stronger and hire more pilots.

Take a look at any GoJet thread on here. Pilots are expected to not take the job there because every 21 year old out of college at a regional is an expert on "alter egos" and wants everyone to stand up for their principles! Don't take a job at Gojet just to have a job! Well, hell folks.......I'm not interested in your 121 side of things (at this time) but I am certainly interested in improving my QOL on the 135 side! (Don't get me wrong, improving things for 121 pilots will help improve things for everyone.....but in the end, like everyone, I'm lookin out for #1.) So yes, I do expect people to not take jobs where rest is being violated all the time! I did it! It probably set me back a few years in my career, but I wasn't going to allow someone to make me their B like that. I wasn't going to allow them to ignore the regulations because they couldn't afford to follow them (the real issue).

I also find it kind of weird that we expect people working at a non-union carrier to absolutely refuse (even at the cost of a job) to fly "struck work" () just to stand up for a principle......but we can't ask or expect the same regarding such a principle as rest and operating legally.

My question if the rest interpretation (directly from the FAA) is being ignored is "what else are they just ignoring?"

Maintenance? Weather mins? Training? Charts? Clean wing/aircraft concept/deicing?

I know for a fact that non-union shops did standup and not fly struck work when a Amerijet was out o strike so it does happen. Like I said earlier the 135 and 121 worlds play a lot of games and walk a fine line in regards to the rest regs. Discretion is the better part here. You have to pick and choose your battle. The even the pax airlines bend the rules. They'll you min req'd hours off as block in to show, even though you got significantly less than x hours of rest due to travel to/from hotel and airport facilities. Just pick your battles wisely and you are right. The only time regs get changed is when there is blood and bent metal to make a point to the feds and congress. Outside of that the fed just don't care to help out.

Uh huh...........I know that too.

And?

Why can't we expect the same pilots to say "No! We're not going to let you fudge the numbers and pretend we're in rest."?

Actually, FAR2 is gone. It's just a turn on Monday afternoon now.

Too bad, the Jet Center remodel is great. Big screen plasma, comfy leather chairs, snooze room, a rockin' fireplace, unlimited Starbucks coffee and fresh baked muffins, nice Azera for a crew car.

Everything a grungy freight pilot deserves. I was sad to see that run go bye bye.

FAR1 is still at the Stupor 8. :-)

And Scott's K-car is still alive and kicking in MOT so we rock that bad boy for a crew car there.

I miss the K- car. I loved it when people would park over the line. It was the highlight of my day denting the crap out of their door. I would never park too close to a K- car that looked like that :) I think all the raw HP was my other favorite thing about it.

Here it is, in all it's K-Glamour.

When you give up that fancy-pants airline work it'll be waiting for you. :)

Did they ever get a muffler for it? I had to coat hanger it for a while. I was thinking a honda fart pipe would be fitting. Maybe a wing?

Or when ever the airline get's rid of me ;)........:(.......:rotfl:

It's still pretty darn loud. I'll check to see if there's an actual muffler attached.

I was chatting up this cutie in the Barnes and Noble then felt like a total loser when she watched me walk out, hop into rockin' K and thunder off to our efficiency crash pad with blacked out windows and a musty couch. :-)

Sounds like with the Slaabs going away we might have you back, eh? That's good, I could use someone below me in seniority. ;)

Yeah we used to rock the sleep room at "The People's FBO of Minot". It pissed me off on wednesdays when the guy flying the doctor would get there first and sit on his computer in the sleep room. Even then "The People's Line Service Guys" always get really loud in the afternoon and wake you up with a mild game of grab ass. We had to use the "People's Crew Car of Minot" to get lunch and they would get really pissy if you pushed the hour and a half limit. Even though there was no one there all day.

Saabs going away but it's going to take a lot more than that to get rid of me;). Bug spray maybe?
