Talon pilot arrested for being drunk.

According to the last article I could find on the subject, the plane never flew. Makes a lot more sense.

Although I still sort of wonder if Capt. Marvel couldn't have given the dude a stern finger-wagging and a "go sit in the corner and think about what you've done". Maybe it wasn't the first time.

Seems like what happened in TVC stayed in TVC

Don't you mean higher?

If he was .30 at the end of the flight, and he didn't drink anything during the flight, his body would have metabolized some alcohol to LOWER him to .30. Alcohol metabolizes at a rate of 0.015 per hour, regardless of sex, age, weight, of what you drank. How long was the flight?

It probably was lower. Your BAC continues to climb for roughly an hour after you've consumed your last drink. The alcohol in your stomach isn't absorbed the instant you drink it.

I've been to TVC. Maybe it was our hotel location, but that town doesn't necessarily scream "let's get wasted and party!"

Our hotel has a "Day Club". But it's mostly just the "I still hang my high school graduation tassel from my rearview mirror" crowd and tattooed middle aged people.

Inexpensive beer and convenient though.

Well. The guy's name has been released. I'm not going to post it here. But it has been released.

I had a few quiet nights there of perma-facepalming while trying to enjoy a beer a listening to the regional crews describe their epic flying moments.

Its you're basic 10 min cab ride to town, or sit here and have a few cold ones and go back to my room and rub one out.

I usually choose the latter because my .30 days are long behind me and I'm only here because I'm working, why the heck do you think I'm sitting at this hotel bar for anyway!? The flying stories!?

I used to hang out in TVC and (mostly) CVX during the summer when I was flying corporate. It's a beautiful area that time of year and we had a lot of fun! One of my favorite areas in the summer.

I was based at CVX for a few months during summers at my last job. Nice spot. Boyne City was really taking things up a notch. Much better than CVX. IMO.

Had a few big drinking nights at the Tavern, never before a flight tho.

We had access to Jet Skis, which definitely made life there more enjoyable! We also spent many a night at the Tavern! But we were always in CVX for a few days at a time as well and acted appropriately.

Yeah the coconut wireless is in full effect in CVX. Since we were the biggest aircraft based for the summer. Eeerrryyyybody knew what was up. Also we did not have access to jet skis.

Nope but we kept our 900 in that hangar and stayed in the hangar apt a few times when it was open.

Ok. I flew the CJ3 across from that hangar.. That was quite a few years ago, but it's still based there (in the summer) as far as I know.

Yeah, the first news story was way off base (surprised?). They never came close to leaving the ground.

<edit to add> you have to be a professional drunk to semi-function at that BAC. Good friend of mine is recovered (recovering?) alcoholic, and he has told me similar in the past - you have to be at the point where you can consistently polish off a whole bottle of vodka on a daily basis before you can build the tolerance to attain that kind of BAC without being out cold or even hospitalized. No way am I giving the "maybe you should call in sick" option to someone that far gone.

I wouldn't give the brown bottle flu option twice. And I'd have serious misgivings about giving it once in a case so totally egregious. But on the other hand, I'm holding the guy's entire livelihood and future in my hands. I'd have a hard time just saying "you made your bed, now sleep in it". Especially if I knew him, which you generally do in 135 charter. *Shrug*. Tough spot to be in. And while I might not have called the Federales, I also don't think the Captain ought to be pilloried for having done so. I wasn't there, and the guy was obviously drunk out of his mind. Maybe it was the only call. Bad situation all around.

The moral of the story, afaict, is "don't work for Talon".

...
"Yep" on all counts. Too easy for me to Monday morning quarterback this from my Barcalounger, but it's definately not the same deal when you're the one trying to figure out the best way to handle a crappy situation. Anybody in that situation has my empathy/sympathy.

I have a friend who used to work at Talon, who isn't a member here. Apparently, they all tried an intervention previously to no avail.

"I'm glad he finally hit the wall."
