I am going to suggest to the moderators that we start a thread and have them post it as a 'sticky' with updates concerning the Spirit Pilots and the countdown to a strike.

They need the support from ALL of us!

I'm down with this. :bandit:

ALPA Spirit pilots and all ALPA members are facing one of the most egregious management teams we’ve ever seen. Spirit pilot leaders have turned down a proffer of arbitration after three years of unsuccessful bargaining with this intransigent management. In fact, while Spirit continues to post consecutive profits each quarter with the lowest cost per block in the industry, it is demanding millions in a concessionary pilot contract and a multitude of demeaning, unacceptable work rule changes.

Spirit pilots¾and ALPA pilots¾will not give in to Spirit management’s regressive bargaining and punitive actions. Help us prove it.

We urge you to join our fellow Spirit pilots in Miramar, FL, this Thursday, May 13. Now is the time to activate our SPC networks at each ALPA carrier and show all airline managements that ALPA pilots are a unified force intent on extracting a fair, just contract deserving of our profession.

This is the first of several Spirit SPC events planned for the near future, and you can bet that all managements will be scrutinizing ALPA’s ability to support one of our own.

In Solidarity,

Mike Donatelli
Chairman ALPA, Int’l, SPSC

I'm not too up to date on this whole thing...what are some of the demeaning work rule changes?

From another forum:

Fellow Pilots:

It's May 12, 2010.

This morning, the NMB released our pilot group into the 30-day cooling-off period required by the Railway Labor Act, as amended, prior to lawful self-help (strike). The exact date and time of a lawful strike will be determined by the MEC, but can happen no earlier than 12:01 a.m., Eastern time, Saturday, June 12, 2010. It is important to note that the above date and time is THE EARLIEST DATE AND TIME ALLOWED BY LAW FOR A LAWFUL STRIKE TO BE CALLED.

THE ACTUAL DATE AND TIME WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE MEC BASED ON NUMEROUS OTHER FACTORS.

As we move through the cooling-off period, it must be stressed that we are in a STATUS QUO situation. This means that both sides must continue to honor the current contract without exception.

Your strike operations center is now fully operational and is prepared should further negotiations, as yet unscheduled, fail.

We have an informational picketing event scheduled for tomorrow from 11a.m.––1 p.m. at our corporate HQ in Miramar, Fla. Plan on attending.

More information will be disseminated in the coming hours.

Stay focused, stay sharp—and fly your contract.

No longevity increases unless you fly (if memory serves me) 840 hours per year (line holders could even have trouble);
Virtually no increase in wages with a complete reduction in first year pay;
Pref bidding;
Loss of 4 days off between trips;
and more change in work rules so much so that they could take delivery of the new airplanes and still furlough 54 more pilots!

Another one from the forum:

Some of the companies proposals:
- Longevity - 1 year will be earned with every 850 hours flown retroactive at contract signing. Basically will only get second year pay after flying 850 hours, 3rd year pay after 1700 hours flown.
- Retirement - reduce 8% match to 3%.
- Insurance - elimination of 2 PPO plans, and 1 EPO plan. Would go to High Deductible Health Plan with HRA funding mechanism.
- Elimination of 4 days off in a row clause.
- Company wants preferential bidding.
- Scheduling - FAR's

If this is what they're asking for then a strike will happen for sure.

Wow....ridiculous...

It's worse--the longevity is retroactive. So they want to take the total number of hours flown, divide it by 840 and that is your longevity. Most pilots would see a reduction. So not only do they want to reduce the rate of pay, they want to reduce longevity and furlough 54 pilots with these rules.

And they made $107 million with the current rules in the worst recession since the Great Depression....but they want an unsafe (one is forced to fly sick to meet the minimum hours and there are less days off which leads to fatigue) and concessionary contract.

Don't let this become the new standard! Support the fight!

Amerijet has demonstrated what a cohesive pilot group taking a stand against heinous management can accomplish.

Good luck Spirit crews.

The next picketing event is in DTW on Wednesday. I'll be there. Here are the details:

Briefing at the DTW Westin at the McNamara terminal at 10:00am
Picketing at the North terminal from 11am to 1pm

They ALWAYS do.

Basic, run of the mill "FUD Campaign"

Fear
Uncertainty
Doubt

Can the company lay off or otherwise fire striking pilots, in this case? I was under the impression they couldn't, legally speaking? But I'm not sure.
