Some hot chick walks into a turning prop

The only way you can claim sexism in this thread is to assume no jokes would be made if the victim were male. It's reasonable to say jokes would be made had the victim been male.

Jokes are often made after tragic events, it's always been that way, likely always will. Humor is a fantastic tool for dealing with mortality. Doesn't mean you don respect life, or women, or what have you.

I don't think you get the point, the point is those jokes are wrong regardless of the anatomical assets of the victim.

One more minor point to make: The reason this girl's name and face is all over the internetz is because she is a young, white, blonde woman.. The reason that she is mentioned on Today, or GMA is because plastering her pretty little face all over the TV screen will sell. It will draw ratings. There are forums all around talking about this incident NOT because it was a person walking into a prop, but because it was a young, blonde "hot" female walking into a prop. We (Men) are all asking the same question; Would you?

So... where's the line to be drawn? Exploited for ratings, or making a few off-color jokes?

you make my point exactly...

I recently saw a black comedian say that before he gets on a boat, he's putting a white baby on a keychain, so the search won't end until they find the baby, and he'll be saved. A sad albeit oft accurate perspective.

Two people are abducted: A) Young, attractive, blonde, affluent white woman from the suburbs. B) Middle-aged, inner-city, unemployed black man. Who leads that night's local news and is on every milk carton in the state within 48 hours?

It may not be right, but it's how it works.

it's not right and that's the point as well. You can continue to defend the status quo, knowing it's wrong, or... you can point out the dysfunction.

All of this tantrum throwing by a woman in the forum who does not fly, does not have a pilots' rating, and lists "poking sexists with her girly stick" as an interest? It's like walking into a bar looking for a fight. Of course you'll find one.

I think she only made one post. And was backed up by many male pilots. Am I missing something?

yes...you are missing the fact that the immature boys don't want to grow up and admit that they are just as childish as the male chauvinist pigs of the 70's. Unfortunately, there are a lot of those running around here.

gs, or making a few off-color jokes?

Here fixed it for you. :whatever:

She did the hit and run thing... Yes. One post. Good on her. We'll call her the post antagonist.

Avi8tor:
As far as my comments go, I'm simply stating things as I see them. My participation was mostly and tongue in cheek (reference the "she's a 4" comment) and when I say WE, I am speaking for the collective MEN/MALE WE. Are there exceptions? Sure there are exceptions. Pull out the "IMMATURE" tagline, if you so choose. One your old military tricks, maybe? Means nothing to me. I'm quite certain that your old dirt track racing buddies are known to make a remark or two about the way a woman looks from time to time. Of course, you're above all that, too. ;) But there's a reason that forums, print and TV media all over the planet are talking about this girl, and it certainly has nothing to do with her intelligence level, or her ability to edit an online fashion blog.

to be completely clear, I was disgusted by much of the commentary, but am tiring of beating my head against the wall here...but when someone else spoke up (it could have been any of us) I jumped in. This has been covered ad nauseam...and I don't expect you or many of the others to change your perspective, that would take a self examination and realization you and many others aren't ready or willing to accept. I do, however take the time and opportunity to throw punches once in a while so that those who may be a little less closed minded to the effects of our society's pervasive sexist dysfunction the opportunity to see the contrast. I would love it if there were no-one to define the differences... but alas there is always a stone to sharpen the foil.

If she was blond hair, blue eyed, 45 years old and 50 pounds overweight would be be all over the news? What's your point?

Wow. If ever sexism is apparent, it's when a female sliced apart by a fricking airplane propeller is still reduced to a "hot or not" object. Y'all are something pretty special.

Not sure it's sexism, stupidity or just poor taste. The woman's life just took a tragic turn and these yoyo's think it's funny. She is someones sister, someones daughter and these people must be in terrible emotional pain not to mention the pilot and the woman who was hit by the prop.

Guy's grow up! Stop trying to justify what you said you're only making it worse.

This story is all over the news today too. Not blond, not blue eyes, not female...

It may not be right, but it's how it works.

As Bee says, it's NOT right and that is the problem. As long as we sit around saying "that's how it works" nothing will change.

And it should change.
