So, how bad is your carrier melting down...

"Yaaaaaagh! Goose the throttle, not the engines!"

Sent a plane from Phx to Spb, pilot didn't shoot an approach and diverted to Sba. Once he landed, the TAF dropped to a 1/4 mile so we had to cancel the flight. Because of 117 they couldn't even Part 91 the plane back to phoenix! Chaos. Oh, and we pre canceled every united express flight in and out of Ord today :(

Without being familiar with the situation (e.g. when they started their work day and the number of segments beforehand), but guessing that this was late at night in San Luis, if I had been flying, we would have been done in Santa Barbara, Part 117 or not.

Sbp was dropping like a rock, no question about that. The issue with 117 is that it stranded our aircraft, crew and pax in SBA, instead of being able to reposition the aircraft back to phoenix.

VX seems to be smooth transition. Couple cancellations for the storm Hercules but everything recovered fine. I haven't noticed a difference except having to sign a new sheet that says I'm legal/fit for the flight. Also got my handy dandy cheatsheet card for the new 117 hours/duty/limits.

Scheduled to deadhead MEM-DTW tomorrow morning Jan 6. Went to check in and make sure I get Economy Comfort once I got inside the 24 hr window. Looking up the locater number they booked me from MEM-DTW this morning. Nevermind the fact that I was supposed to do MEM-ORD-MEM today. My schedule does still show I should be deadheading MEM-DTW on Jan 6. Been on hold for 45 min to get it fixed with no sign of anyone picking up soon. Hope the hotel minutes aren't too expensive!

TL;DR... Business as usual at 9E!

I completely fail to understand why the hold time ends up being so long. Maybe someone who works in operation control at any airline can explain it to me.

The holiday's are over, and it's still a mess. I was on hold cor 15 minutes to get released, and gave up. I knew i wouldn't get through, because there are pictures of guys phones who have been on hold for 4+ hours. I got a memo from company that ican now just "self release" after checking my schedule when I get back. The new rest rules, plus short staffing are. Ausing complete havoc, it's totally awesome.

Could be as simple as understaffing in crew scheduling...

You were on hold for 45 minutes with an airline probably in IROP... mine isn't and we have hold times that long every day. Even during down times :(

Ours just goes to an answering machine after 5 rings.

"Umm... so I finished my flying. I'm going home. Bye."
