SO, Did Eagle pilots win the lottery today?

Before today we knew we were probably going to get divested anyway in the future.. probably shrunken and screwed with our flying outsourced to the lowest bidder, massive furloughs and absolutely nothing we could do about it, not a good place to be if you are on the bottom half of the list.. now EVERY one of us at least has some hope for a future career at AA eventually. Even if Eagle withers away and slowly dies..

Why is that so bad?

What? I never new that about Eagle? Has the company openly said that?

agreed. this is some of the best news a regional pilot could hope for, and all you hear is doom and gloom. I expected it from the non-eagle guys who would be jealous, but not form the guys who just had their ships come in.

Because you have to always be on the look out for being dooped. I agree this sounds like great news but what I really want to know is why did AMR agree to this? What's the catch? If they came out and said "we just ordered 400 new aircraft and we need bodies to help staff them so..." then perhaps people would have a more positive outlook. Also remember that we just exited the Letter 3 decade and all the grievance that caused.

did you read what you just wrote? even if it is 9 years, a guaranteed job at mainline. becuase at your current regional, there is no guarantee, and its alot easier to get hired at eagle, than at any other major.

I'll admit that it is a good deal for the mainline guarantee, but I am worried about the current job I have. I'm spending a lot of money to move to my base and it's a stressful situation when I think about the possible outcomes of what could happen. Granted, I should leave speculation out of it and just let the facts come as they happen.

For the last year AA has been discussing a divestiture/spin-off with Eagle... and wanting to "diversify" their feed with other "cheaper" options..

Look at it from another point of view? why wouldnt AMR agree to it? This move just saved them a ton of money, in h.r., and pilot recruitment cost. no flying people in for interviews and the associated hotel cost, no initial drug screens, background/reference checks, setting up booths at pilot career fairs, plus all the manhours required to accomplish all that stuff. they just set themselves up a 2800 pilot feeder pool. its actually a very smart business move.

Honestly, I see this as good news for Eagle guys and even good news for me. Good news for them since they get to move onto a major with some form of certainty. Good news for me since I have little to no interest in going to American, which means guys might stay at Eagle rather than jumping into the job market to compete for the jobs I DO want. :)

Two things:

Transfer of Assets vs. Change of Control.

Despite contracts saying otherwise, there is NO guarantees in any industry (especially this one).

If it works out as people are hoping then it is VERY good news. I've just seen way too many flowup programs die a horrible death in the last 10 years.

Am I reading the news right-that AMR is selling or spinning off, divesting EAGLE? Is that tied to this?

yes it is. Basically if you read the agreement to resolve the grievance on transfer of assets. The preferential hiring program was the carrot that allowed the grievance to be resolved. The agreement was that all operating assets may be transferred to American or its designee.

So my question is this. What happens to the Eagle pilots if AMR decides to park their airplanes? Everybody keeps saying the pilots go with the planes, but what if the planes go to the desert?

I could definitely see this ending with a lot of parked 50 seaters. Then a big contract for Q400s gets signed with a new company and the Eagle guys/gals are now on the street.

I hope I'm wrong though. Good luck

No Q's. You forget we have nothing bigger then 50 (aside from the atr, but that is a different) seats because of American! They still will not allow it regardless of who the carrier is!

If there was a big furlough at Eagle due to work being given away, the agreement with AA says that AA would have the new carrier give preferential hiring to any furloughed eagle pilot.

Fixed it for you.

Until we see the ASA/CPA the new company (We are not going to be called Eagle) has with AMR and what is going to happen to the CRJ we have no clue how long we are going to have jobs and if we will ever see a job at AA.

Just wanted to throw my two cents in, I love the sound of this I don't really understand all the disadvantages hope this gets a lot of eagle guys onward and upward.

Good news is, when Pinnacle/Mesaba run into the ground due to understaffing I'll have a place to go work.

Looking forward to flying at Beagle

I'll be right there behind you Joe.

What about the CRJ700?

This seems like a hollow agreement to me.

"American Eagle pilots will be offered a minimum of 35% of every American Airlines new-hire class. In the event that 35% of American Airlines’ new hire class is greater than 25 pilots per month, American Eagle will be required to release at least 25 Eagle pilots per month."

So if they have a class of 100, only 1/4 will be Eagle unless a furlough at AE. Many of the younger seniority numbers will be watching the hiring parade go by without a chance to participate. One would have better luck trying to get hired off the street. If hiring at AA started and was consistent, a new hire at AE wouldn't have a chance to go to AA for 8+ years. By then, with the way the divestiture is looking, AE will be long gone.
