Flight I was on last night, during the taxi at Duluth Airport, taxi-speed seemed abnormally fast, especially for the weather conditions present. I did a bit of mental math (counted time one one-thousand two one-thousand three one-thousand) between taxiway edge lights.... and based on the rough math, the CA was taxiing at about 38 kts. Dayum. Be careful out there y'all.

Has to be Southwest. Those are the only guys that have two 80kt calls before they ever leave the ground.

But more importantly, how were the FAs?

If it was DLH and Rex was on the flight.....probably not all that. :)

She was a very nice individual. I talked to her for a bit. Not because of her looks, but because she's employed at a company I know.

And c'mon y'all - not bitchin, just didn't feel like having to go out the emergency exit to start my weekend. ;)

What the hell are you doing up in DLH anyway? Was it cold enough for you?

Nah, 28 was shorts weather, I really wanted to check out -17 weather.... tonight it's actually warmer.... 6F "feels like -8" according to weather.com

My dad lives up this way now I'm visiting for the weekend.

I was probably taxiing at SWA speed in MSP last week. Then again, I had been extended into my day off and had 26 minutes to get from rwy 35 to B4 then from B4 to G19. Otherwise, I was gonna get stuck in MSP for another 4 hours at a whopping $1.40 an hour on what was my day off. For the record, I made the deadhead. :)

lol well I know you weren't working the flight to DLH and that's why I was allowed on:D

PS - are you too good to be on AIM? haha

... So you sat there and conducted your own rough estimate on the aircraft taxi speed (of which your method of timing is questionable as well as the estimate of distance between lights); came up with an exagerated estimate; then waited to publish this on a public message board. You are kidding, right? Why didn't you want to mention your concerns to the crew after the flight?

There's always one that wants to be smart with a reply. I'm not calling "anyone" out. I simply put - I thought it was a bit fast. If you'd like, I'll go ahead and call pro stan on this. I just figured it'd be easier to put a PSA out there saying.... keep your taxi speeds reasonable for the conditions.

FYI - to calculate the speed, I used a fairly accurate count of seconds - if you count as I did, you'll match your second hand. I looked up the distance between the taxiway lights, and did some math.

You think that the flight crew would really appreciate me mentioning something to them after the flight when they're trying to get to their overnight, and they've got an in uniform guy in the back ....

If you are pro stan, PM me and I'll give flight details. I consider taxi speed on ice to be an important consideration.

You know as well as I do the amount of idiot WN wannabes around there.

The flight crew doesn't appreciate you "mentioning something to them" infront of a public audience, either. If you'd like to say something to address the safety of the flight, grow some balls and talk to the crew first... but you didn't. Professional Standards should be the second to get involved.

You're welcome for the ride, BTW.

LOL if you denied me a ride - there'd be some 'splainin to do.

Anyhoo - just to clarify, of course I would not have said anything in front of pax. However, they've got a short overnight, typical of company ops. Based on my experiences, even with CRM, CA's egos at certain companies are very fragile things, and that wouldn't be the proper stroking method, to say, "hey, just FYI I think you were taxiing too fast". Most people around here think you're a giant if you say something to their face about safety.

Case in point: "speed" callout.... I've tried that a coupla times, and it's mostly senior guys that have the issue... they chuckle and pretty much say, yeah, you don't need to tell me that. But we're supposed to do it.

Again - I wasn't referencing ANY airline, or ANY crew. I didn't even give a specific time. If you look at DLH inbounds, there are several evening flights. So.... this was merely meant as a heads up to, IMO, watch your speed on slick surfaces. Not calling anyone out.

PS. No requirement to say hi when I'm non-reving.... but I do anyways. So "thanks for the ride" (rolleyes) hahaha

I've scooted around here and there for various reasons, but never on contaminated surfaces. We all have. When theres slippery crap on the taxiway though...you'd better run 2 engines and chill out....we get there when we get there.
