Sloooooowwwww down!

I've scooted around here and there for various reasons, but never on contaminated surfaces. We all have. When theres slippery crap on the taxiway though...you'd better run 2 engines and chill out....we get there when we get there.

Agree 100%. If the taxiiways had been contaminated, I'd have just caught the next DH and grumbled something about "FML, that's the last time I accept an extension that I'm able to refuse because I want the comp day for later blah blah blah." However, MSP did a great job of cleaning up, and the runways and taxiways were totally clear.

On the two engine thing, I ALWAYS taxi 2 engines on contaminated surfaces. I've had FOs look at me strangely when I start up #1 to go get deiced sometimes and tell me "Aren't we gonna be burning a lot of gas this way." Yep. That's why they gave us 600 lbs of taxi fuel, too. I want that second engine if I need it. And I REALLY want that second thrust reverser if I need that.....

If I had a backseat driver complain to me I would say..."excuse me, did you say bomb?":cwm27:

Exactly. So. Instead of talking to the guy - I'm putting out a reminder to anyone who has to taxi in snow. Like I said, no-one knows which operator from the original post, and they'll never figure out the CA.

Glad people are so sensitive about it. Look - if a guy who flies a similar size aircraft has a seat of the pants feeling that they're taxiing too fast, then you probably want to listen.

I've flown with a lot of guys that taxi too fast for the speed they turn the tiller. Oftentimes the nosewheel slides as it loses traction from going sideways.

The flight crew doesn't appreciate you "mentioning something to them" infront of a public audience, either. If you'd like to say something to address the safety of the flight, grow some balls and talk to the crew first... but you didn't. Professional Standards should be the second to get involved.

You're welcome for the ride, BTW.

Flight I was on last night, during the taxi at Duluth Airport, taxi-speed seemed abnormally fast, especially for the weather conditions present. I did a bit of mental math (counted time one one-thousand two one-thousand three one-thousand) between taxiway edge lights.... and based on the rough math, the CA was taxiing at about 38 kts. Dayum. Be careful out there y'all.
Depends on the conditions, and I am pretty sure you are right.
I doubt very few captains taxi at AIM recommended "a brisk walk", I know one who single engine taxis, who I am sure would get honked at, if we horns installed.:)

There's never a reason to be scooting around at SWA speeds, contaminated surface or not. If you're breaking 30 knots during the taxi, you're going too fast. A call to Pro Standards would be warranted.

...at SWA speeds...
Because no other carriers have ever before in the history of airlines before Southwest never not once been seen to be scooting across a ramp or down a taxiway at V1-10.

...this post is only my opinion. :bandit:

I'm sure they're the only ones that deserve it.

Every company has people doing things they shouldn't. It happens. You deal with it and move on.

You know as well as I do that if you clock a random sample of DAL, UAL, and AMR planes, you won't come anywhere close to the same taxi speeds as a random sample of SWA planes. Why are you trying to make excuses for it?

(For the record, I think many of our captains taxi far too fast, though few of them come close to average SWA speed.)

That thought would never even enter my mind. I come up with some random and stupid crap sometimes, but even I'm not bored enough to try that one.

I guess that taxi to the gate a few weeks ago at CVG wasn't as fast as it felt...since it wasn't SWA.

So how did this happen? Were you listening to your scanner while non revving and you heard ATC say, "SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW DOWN!!!!" and the pilots were like, "NO!!! $%(* YOU AND SQUAWK VFR!!!!"
