Question for you? Why would anyone in today's world, want to go to SkyWest. Over say a union wholly owned? Ya'll's pay is low, lack of sizable bonus. Low starting pay? No union or even commuting policy. Commuter hotels. Or even the weak carrot of a flow.
No shade to my OO friends. But your management has to seriously step it up. In today's world and money, the WO seems to be where it is at. All subject to change of course without notice.
I agree, and that is the topic of discussion (leverage) with the TA pay package. On all the social media pages, and in the cockpits, we're taking about whether we should vote yes on a negligible pay increase. I will use my bargaining power as much as I can to say, " we deserve more $$, commuter policies, and QOL increases (not just pay package negotiations)".
The biggest reason to come to skywest is the fact that "they're the best.." in few words. Great training, a "great product", solid profits, great QOL (always room for improvements..), great upwards movement, and great bases. They're a strong company and not one with significant issues, currently. Even some of the more prominent unionized regionals have • QOL, contract breeches, and lies from the company that harm the pilot group on multitudes of levels. Even the huge bonuses are IMHO unsustainable.. maybe not going to bankrupt them as Mr. Chip Away says yet, reflective of the need to get pilots. Skywest fortunately does not have these significant problems, yet. The pilot group here has very little to complain about compared to any other regional I think. I've seen a lot of bitching at others.. but, each sees it there own way.
Skywest knows this and they bank on it, a bit too much mind you, they dangle the carrot of growth and new contracts for us to vote in this almost insulting pay package for Junior pilots (it definitely favors the senior group), while almost simultaneously opening up SAN and BOI. They promise that growth of new bases, faster upgrades and new aircraft.
Overall, right now going to a strong regional that fits your location, and QOL needs is all dependent. There are plenty of young bachelors that should go to Envoy and get that flow through because they can relocate and have a crap schedule. Me? I very much appreciate that SKYW just next month added more four day trips which I like. I get more days off, commute less, and see that they're receptive to our survey responses. I also came here because of the brilliant commute, it's easy for me and I came here for this base in particular. There's movement, so I got it.
If your location isn't important and you want that flow, go for it. There's no reason to settle for what we make here. I got lucky that it doesn't effect me enough to change my mind. If I had student loans or ANY DEBT, you wouldn't see me here.
