Skywest Questions

As someone who is about to join the regional ranks, I'm looking for somewhat of a moral boost. I'll be moving to COS this summer so that I can hopefully be based at home. Over at APC it seems like it's just constant doom and gloom, people getting minimum days off with poor credit. Are these just the outliers? I don't expect the schedule I want for years but such a negative picture is being painted it's hard to ignore.

Yeah, the APC crowd makes me wonder sometimes if they even work for us. I've been here for almost five years and really have no complaints. I want to move on ASAP, but if I had to I could happily spend my career here.

I've had my share of bad days like anybody else, but some people are just intent on being miserable. Fortunately they are extremely rare to come across on the line, in either left or right seats.

Look, man... that website is the Mos Eisley of professional aviation.

I appreciate the insight guys! Everyone I've met there has been generally happy. Just as an outsider looking in it gets fairly difficult to ignore until I experience it for myself.

Colorado Springs is a great base with varied flying and great crews.

People use APC as an avenue to complain but on the line, you won't see so much negativity.

There is one there that should be watched. 8).

Worst part about COS is its a maintenance base. Early start, late finishes. Crews are good (don't know about the junior captains and FAs - I'm way too senior to be flying with them ;) ). Sometimes you'll have a long sit in a hub before your last flight home, and that sit gets extended even longer as you wait for a last minute swap to a broke plane that needs MX done.

Small base and lots of the crews have been together for a long time. People talk. At times I feel like I'm hearing drama from a glee club or something in high school.

Final bit of advice - stay away from APC.

Didn't realize so many of us on here were COS crews! I agree, it's a nice base but the trips can be long... But they do seem to pay pretty good - better than they did a couple years ago.

How bad to the MX sits get in COS? My record is starting 7.5 hrs late from the little base in the desert.

It's really nothing to complain about. OK, the artic weather preflight sucks. But I've greatly enjoyed my time here. OO, its magic, you know?

I'm going to chime in here too guys. I have an interview on Monday in SLC and am hoping to be SLC based. I am in NC now, but lived in Park City for 5 years when I was a ski bum. Any insight into the type of flying, time to get SLC based out of training, time to hold a line, etc. Really any info, including about the interview would be greatly appreciated!

Getting SLC could be anywhere from right out of training to 6 months, just depends on when they open more spots. You will be on reserve for a long time, likely a year or more. The interview is pretty laid back. Be yourself, try to relax, the job is yours for the taking.

Truth, except possibly the reserve part. Anecdotal evidence is yours truly, I managed to get back to SLC about 8 months after DOH (could have had it sooner, but I was a masochist and wanted to give Chicago a go for the summertime). I thought I'd be on forever reserve, but I ended up holding a line only 2 months after transferring in, nice surprise that was...

really depends on what you bid for and what you get. again my experience was a few 200 trips intermixed with longer 700/900 stuff, with the occasional weird ferry/reposition flight thrown in while on reserve.
