Skywest Questions

I didn't touch a plane at all for February. Sitting at 25 hours of block for 2016 so far.
Holy crap! That's insane! I'll trade ya! Haha! PBS won't let me below 95 hours a month...

I'll be (have to) bidding for a whopping 4 days next month. I go to class on the 9th and they won't let me out of the first week. I guarantee I'll get stuck working all of those days too. Oh yea I bid 25% in base....

Polar opposite hah. I wouldn't mind it if I wasn't so new still.

I ended up getting another job. They understand that I am on LCR and may randomly just be gone. Its not flying, but I cant beat the double dip paychecks. I figure if they aren't going to fly me, I may as well rake in some extra as long as I can!

I can't be awarded more than 62 hours block next month. I'm going to time out on the 1,000 in 365... Complete opposite problem of Jordan.
Impressive. I was wondering if we were the only company that had that issue. Of course our guys can still fly on the 135 side.

Did you pick up a crap ton of open time or did that just happen through what you were getting with PBS all the time?

PBS awarded. I've picked up a net of 11 hours of block above what was awarded. Had I not picked up anything they could fly me 73 hours in May.

How many pilots are you guys losing a month? I'm looking at each class size picture on the recruitment Facebook page and count 30-40/month it seems. Is that still not enough?

Most definitely but still makes me worry 9-12 months down the line that they will be filled....but I have a feeling that's just me over thinking.
You're over thinking. 9-12 months from now is a long time in this business, particularly right at the beginning. It's good to make some plans and set some goals, but things are very fluid right now. As far as SkyWest or any other regional reaching a point in the next year where they won't need pilots, desperately, I think you're golden.

Don't forget the E-175 classes. I don't think those guys are getting their picture taken, or if they are they're not being posted... In the last 12 months the average hiring has been about 70 pilots per month. Currently at 3900 pilots right now. We have actually grown since last year, but attrition makes growth very slow. Last year we had around 3600 pilots.

Yeah, that just sounds crazy to hire 70 a month and continually doing it... It's just hard to believe that many seats are opening

We lost 60 in March. 45 in February. 40+ in January. Haven't asked about this month. 60 was the highest number ever that anyone could remember. My source was a face-to-face meeting in corporate with the person who handles all of that.

It's hard to believe the pipeline is producing that many American pilots. I think a fair percentage of the new hires are bucket listers or guys getting back into it after a decade out , who are in their 50's and may never move on to a major. Lots of people coming out of the woodwork, but numberwise the company may be netting 20 guys a month if you do the math. Some guys I think go there just to get thier ATP paid for and then leave for a corporate gig.

Also, they've been hiring steadily since late 2013 I think and upgrade times have dropped regardless, if that is any indicator. It's a pool with a steady leak being filled with a hose running continuously . Retirements at the big three really start ramping up in 2019-2022 and they already have staffing pinches at the regionals that started manifesting in 2014.

Anyone know if I can count sim time from class towards the 1500 hr min? I'm sitting at 1460 hrs and wondering if I need to grind out those last few hours or if thats enough to show up for class and get the last few in the sim.

Up to 100 hrs if it's a level c or d and part of an approved training program.

25 out of 50 hrs multi can be from the SIM
