Skywest Questions

Gouge for Skywest interview. There are a lot of websites, just looking for the most recent and accurate.

I found that about 50% of every gouge was included. Every one. I was very happy to have dug in the deep old corners of the internet and read/studied most all of them. Worth it.

Does anyone know if SkyWest is going to lose some of their Alaska flying in PDX once Horizon brings on their E175's?

As someone who barely chose OO over QX based on the idea of getting based in PDX (qol and driving to work are my top priorities). It's starting to make me nervous. PDX growth and movement seems to have stopped. They added two more planes but no manpower, which was confusing at first. Then it was explained to me that they were just to help with QX's routes for the time being. I pulled SEA in April, which I'm very grateful for. This is only my third month on the line so SEA happened way sooner than I was thinking. A three hour drive is better than commuting to LA in my opinion. Driving to work is so important to me that I considered moving to SoCal when I got LAX out of training, that idea was brief however due to the extreme rental prices in that area.

OO recruiting really capitalized on the last year of QX labor management relations. They have recruited MANY guys who live in the PDX/SEA area who would have gone to QX if things were better relative to the current industry standards. Those pilots are willing to commute to ORD/DTW/LAX or SFO for the idea of getting back to the PAC NW. I am about 15 in line for PDX atm, and that number gets larger every time someone meets their seat lock freeze date and can transition into PDX. Another thing to consider is due to the amount of guys who are on the CRJ right now who want PDX ERJ, someone at my seniority level or lower will probably have a longer stint on reserve vs a more junior base.

I will say this, and it may not be popular on this thread.. I hope QX does get it turned around, they are a great pilot group that have put up with a ton of sh$t lately, so these jets may be what they need along with a good new contract to become what QX once was.

Off topic but curious, do you prefer to drive rather than commute? Or is commuting tough between the two?

I ask because I live within a 3 hour drive of both DFW and IAH and have wondered when the time comes if driving or trying to commute would be better.

If the drive is withon 3 hours, I would drive over commuting. Commuting you will pay extra for parking, and if on reserve you will lack personal transportation while in base sitting around. Just my personal preference

Once I hold a commutable line that may make a difference. But I'm a long time away from that lol

A little perspective... When I started almost 3 years ago, it was 4 to 5 years to get PDX as an FO. Left seat was basically unattainable (12+ years). In the last year, we have had several months where guys were awarded PDX before finishing training and captain can be held in under 5 years (I think this is even going to drop). To draw any kind of picture of what the future holds is impossible.

As far as QX goes, I don't think any of us are hoping for failure, but their management is way behind the 8 ball in solving their staffing issues. The tiniest amount of good will would have set them up for the future. I think management believes jets are going to solve all their problems. They have survived a long time on reputation. That is quickly declining.

Oh I get that it is way better now than it has been for the last decade. I was just offering my perspective on the current PDX situation. It was going junior during the growth phase, but just as anything the movement changes and the last few months it has slowed. My sim partner was the plug in PDX for a few years, he told me it took him 3 years and an airframe change to get PDX.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Up until a few months ago, guys that wanted SEA were getting PDX and having to commute for a few months. Things will shift around. I honestly don't see how horizon is going to staff all the flying they have coming. Even now that jet classes have started they are getting very few applicants. The longer they wait to improve the contract the harder it will be to convince new hires that they are a solid choice. I hope for the best for those guys. Sounds like a complete cluster though.

Thanks for the reply. I am potentially looking at moving to the airlines in the next 4ish months. I live in Pdx and don't want to sell my house as I don't think I could ever afford to move back. If you don't mind could I shoot you a PM with some more questions in the future?
Thanks

Other than pay what would are the big differences in the contract between Skywest and QX?
