SkyWest Pay Proposal Out

So again, I ask...why the apathy for big regional pay?

Like you kind of mention, its because "Most" people care about getting their time and getting the hell out rather than campaigning about almost meaningless 'regional politics' that most people(since they are trying to get the hell out) don't care about.:) If you're a regional lifer I can see why you want to fight your 'big plane' pay. For example: The ASA contract passed by over 80%. Majority of pilots who were against the contract were the 700 captains. You need at least 9 yrs of ASA seniority to hold a line on the 700.

My opinion is that it will get voted in. The last one did, and there's really no reason for a management team to say "HEY! Here's some more money!" when rates are already established for the next 3yrs.

Bike21, it appears that management has successfully pulled the wool over your eyes. You never "beat" management on that issue, or any other. They have $600/hr attorneys from Ford & Harrison that develop strategy to make it look like you've beaten management. That way, the pilot group's delusion of the effectiveness of SAPA is continued, and management doesn't have to worry about a union. The truth is, your pilot group has no power, no legal avenues for redress of grievances, and no bargaining leverage. You are helpless slaves to the scumbags in the offices in St. George. It didn't have to be this way, but 66% of your fellow pilots apparently have a combined IQ of 5.

Dude your welcome in my house any time you want! LOL. I wish some of this pilot group would WAKE UP and smell the whiskey.

I compared the proposed rates to ASA. On average the -200 rates are identical for both CA and FO, except for the 1st year FO. The -700/900 rate is around 1-3% less than ASA because of our Brad Holt Override.

I don't know your name, I'm sure you know mine, and so with all due respect, I think what PCL and the rest of us are trying to say is its not about 1 or 2 bucks per hour. Its about our job as a whole. Our standard of living is far too low for the job that we do. And our spinless pilot group is not willing to stand up let alone voice their opinion to mgmt.

Starting pay for a CRJ First Officer should be $35,000/yr. It should go up incrementally by $5,000 every year until it hits $65,000. Which is what corp guys are getting for the same job in a challenger or global express. Sometimes even more.

The captains should be making no less than $90,000. The senior ones should be pulling in $120-130/yr.

I know. You say how can you justify this when the majors make less than that. Well, you can start by voting in a union to start taking back your interests. Labor should start taking it back from MGMT.

That's exactly right. The money IS there, it's just a matter of how it's going to be spread out. Among the already rich, or amoung the people that make the money for the airlines.

It's our decision, whether we realize it or not.

Wow... More ignorant words have never been spoken.

It would be great to make that much. I agree 100% that we deserve that much pay for the job we do and the responsiblity we shoulder. PAY MUST GO UP for this to be a career for the professionals that are required to keep it safe. If you want to pay a captain $30K a year then you will get a $30K pilot. Good luck with the body count. We need to realize this and work for better pay. BUT WAKE UP!!

LOOK AT WHO LED THE RACE TO THE CURRENT PAY SITUATION! You said yourself we can't justify it when the majors make LESS than that. WHO PUT THE MAJOR PAY THERE?!?! ALPA!!! United's concessions, Delta's low rates... ALL OF THEM FORGED BY ALPA MEC's!!

Anybody who blames people who dispise ALPA for the current situation in our industry are truly living in la la land.

Look at the majority of highest paid pilots for the equipment they fly. ALPA is nowhere near the picture!

Talk about spineless!! In the past ALPA took the concessions, didn't or couldn't strike or do whatever they claim they can to uphold wages and work rules... and all this while sucking in revenue from a pilot group that they don't do anything for. Look at yourself ALPA and ALPA members before you go pointing the fingers at happy pilot groups.

ALPA is a business that seems to have no interest in the QOL of their members. Yet, I wonder how much ALPA shells out for its leader's paychecks.

And don't buy into the ALPA magazine propaganda... ALPA did not invent RVSM, TAWS, EGPWS, Fowler Flaps, concrete, Jet A, lifevests, or push to talk switches. They love to promote the "fringe" benefits of being in an organization that can't uphold its core values.

We should get paid more.... ALPA is not the way to do it.

I wonder how ALPA will spin the latest Teamsters victory for NetJets.... Oh.. wait, a guy at the starbucks in the B concourse told me how ALPA invented money. Thanks ALPA!!

ALPA has never done anything for me, except move me backwards!

I think unions have their place. But the current state of the industry is not it. A union, especially one that can't negotiate effectively like ALPA, only slows down the dynamics needed by an airline to be competitive and keep their pilots employed... period.

If we were in an industry that was soaking up profits and growth, unions would be needed to keep management honest. The fact is. Oil is expensive, passengers don't pay for their product, and airlines are scraping buy with profit margins there or gone every quater. We have to be realistic.

Don't hate on pilot groups that are lucky enough to have jobs and be experiencing growth, while only getting paid what everybody else gets paid!

Growth happens to regional airlines that can adapt quickly. Unions don't allow for that so their airlines don't grow as fast or like in recent events fall apart. Pay is crappy, but it is crappy EVERYWHERE!! Union or not. And ALPA has proven that having a union does not provide any benefit in the fight for better pay and job security.

Ask Skyway what their union has done for them lately. Then ask the United narrow body pilots, then USAirways' guys, etc.. etc...

Wow... More ignorant words have never been spoken.

The above quote accurately describes your own post. Pure ignorance. You want to blame ALPA for the concessions of the past 7 years, but the truth is, those concessions were caused by outside factors. For one, those concessions were all pretty much linked to JetBlue payrates. Every carrier that went into bankruptcy held up the JetBlue rates to the BK judge and said "we need these rates to compete." Secondly, thanks to pilots that constantly vote for Republicans despite ALPA's advisement to do otherwise, the courts and the NMB are filled with anti-labor scumbags. That makes it impossible to win any battles in this environment. Get informed and drop the stereotypical anti-ALPA <crap>.

This works....until the next economic downturn and the short terms might find themselves stuck for a while. I'm actually a little concerned that I might get hemmed at PCL for longer than I was hoping for. The days of "get in, upgrade and get out" are slowly drawing to a close, I believe.

Secondly, thanks to pilots that constantly vote for Republicans despite ALPA's advisement to do otherwise, the courts and the NMB are filled with anti-labor scumbags.

Wow...put all the blame on a political party...what a joke. So, can ALPA do no harm in your eyes?

Wow...put all the blame on a political party...what a joke. So, can ALPA do no harm in your eyes?

I'm not putting all the blame on the reps, but when the president comes out and says "no more airline strikes on my watch," it kinda gets me to thinking. And before people start screaming "Comair! Comair!" go back and read some newspaper articles from the time. Bush wasn't asked by the NMB to intervene, so he had no power to call a PEB. Although, it's pretty clear from his comments in that article that he wouldn't have hesitated to do so and block the strike.

Wow...put all the blame on a political party...what a joke. So, can ALPA do no harm in your eyes?

Not all Republicans are bad. ALPA-PAC contributes about a quarter of its donations to Republican candidates. Some Republicans are actually loyal supporters. But most of them are disastrous for labor.

As for your second question, yes, ALPA can make mistakes because ALPA is run by flawed human beings just like any other organization. However, ALPA has overall been a tremendous positive influence on this profession and this industry and continues to be such.

Wow...put all the blame on a political party...what a joke. So, can ALPA do no harm in your eyes?

Actually brotha, politics have a lot to do with it. Historically, republicans won't allow unions to strike while they're in office. The controllers during reagan, and bush now. When you take away that ability, the upper class(which is who runs this country) can do as they please, labor has no power.

When the avg american wakes up and sees this, (which will never happen) things will change. You know what they do in france and italy when workers attempt to get hosed? They bring the country to a grinding hault! Block roads with semi's. Block railroad tracks with people and objects.

But, but but, you can't do that you moron, you don't understand what it will do to the economy.

Sooooooooo, your right, then lets not do anything and continue to erode our QOL so the upper class can make theirs. yeahhh! This is all just a dream though. No labor force in this country can do anything anymore. The upper class has waged a financial war on us, as they did with the soviets during the cold war. If we can't physically harm them, we'll bankrupt them. In other words, YOU AND I CAN"T STRIKE BECAUSE WE CAN"T AFFORD TO.

Your too busy working to pay your bills.

Occasionally unimpressed with ALPA national (i.e. several 1113's coming to a head within a week of each other at major carriers seemed like the time to be a bit more proactive), but overall, I'm horrified to think what this career would be like without them.

ALPA is a business that seems to have no interest in the QOL of their members. Yet, I wonder how much ALPA shells out for its leader's paychecks.

a little dated but you get the idea.....

Junior, your information was taken from a management website filled with lies.

Why don't you find the salaries of airline executive compensation packages then get back to us.

This is a question I have for some Skywest/Colgan guys who voted no. Do you want to stay at Skywest/Colgan the rest of your career? If so great. However, if your goal is to fly for 90% of the majors/legacies out there, you will be flying for an ALPA carrier. Would you not take a job at FEDEX, United, Delta, Continental, Alaska, etc... because they are ALPA? A little hypocritical to only support ALPA and be a member in good standing when you are at the place you want to be.

interesting... did not know that, i found that on another forum. and yes airline executives make much more i know.

Yeah, the website that those lies were presented was funded by management groups.

So if airline executives make more and have all the resources in the world backing them up, who do we have backing us up as workers?

Without union protection, we are flying around like a limp pecker when your significant other wants to have some fun in bed.
