I've drastically scaled back the instructing for a few reasons.
#1- Don't wanna risk a violation
#2- Just wanna take time off and relax before ground school starts
#3-I've been working non stop for as long as I can remember. I"ve been in school full time and been working full time and been going thru my ratings full time for the past 3 years.
I'm also really studying a lot on Turbine engines since it was highly recommended to me by the interview staff so I have a leg up when I get to ground school.
I managed to snake a copy of the Brasilia POH and have been reading it for about two weeks. It's extremely detailed. I know that I won't learn everything on that airplane before ground school but my goal is to have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of it.
A few things for you guys to consider now!
Start saving money now because:
#1 when you prepare for the interview your gonna need at least three weeks off to prepare. That can be tough for some.
#2 Some airlines don't pay you while your attending training. That can mean going without pay for six weeks at some places. Ouch!
#3 First officer pay during your first year will be hard on you! If you start saving now, and have money to support your modest income, it won't be so bad!
Just some food for thought!

What books do you use to study for the MECHANICAL TEST? I've been searching, but am not sure which one's cover the pulley questions, etc.

I studied a book put out by Air inc that consisted of Skywest quetions that might have been on the test. Turns out of the 20 questions on the test only about 5 of them were in that book. I also went to Barnes and Noble and checked out the ASVAB book. Its the 2003 edition and has about 3-4 questions in there in Chapter 3 that are on the test.
