CONGRATULATIONS, OMAR!

Total surprise!

(I knew last week and it was killing me not being able to tell you outright before you got the letter!)
Let's see, when did you get the ramp job in PSP? Two, three months ago? From ramp rat to FO in two months. Not too bad!

I stopped by to say hi and offer encouragement during his interview and although he was stressed, he was confident and fit right in! Looked like he just belonged there!

Congrats, Omar.

It's amazing if you read a website for a few years how much you'll see people progress. Too cool.

a scenario like your the captain and a passenger brings a cat on board and F/A is allergic to Cats what do you do. Skywest allows pets inside the cabin.

[/ QUOTE ]

how would this situation be handled? what if it was you or your FO who was allergic?

Well................this is what I said...........The cat is authorized to travel on board so its not the passengers fault. And it would take at least 2 hours to get another flight attendant here so I said if we were to take the cat and the flight attendant were to become incapacitated, we would be in trouble. She or he is a required crewmember and must be fit to fly. Having the cat on board would pose a hazard to the safety of the flight. So the cat can't go! Always bring it back to safety!

Re: Skywest\' newest First Officer!

Congrats! I'm sure we would all like as much info as possible! I'm interested in how you went about preparing for the interview? Any good books you would recommend? Did you spend a lot of time brushing up on your IFR skills before the interview? How much time did you have when you got hired? See, just a few questions lol. I've got 900TT now and it seems a lot of places use 1000/100 as their minimums, so I feel like I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! At least there seems to be a lot more pilot jobs around then there used to be; if aviation is always feast or famine than let the feast begin!

well........My times were 1300TT and 150ME. I'd recommend a few books. First is Checklist for success, its put out by air inc. Theres the mental math for pilots book which I also used. It helped a bit with figuring out quick how too's. I studied the FAR/AIM book like there was no tommorrow. I read it 3 times front to back in a span of 3 weeks. I read my Jeppesen textbook for IFR/COM training. I read Questions Questions by Air inc. An awesome book. A lot of wx related stuff from the AIM, and Questions questions. I also read the introduction section of my Jepp plates and enroute portion. I had numerous pilot's from both skywest and General Aviation quiz me on those charts. I thought of every imaginable scenario and got help on it from everyone I could.

It's good to study with other people because it helps you learn better. You also pick up a thing here and there from that person that makes you a better pilot all around. I would study with 5 or 6 people seperatley and each would offer something I didn't know. I put the info all together and became stronger through that.

As far as opportunities, heck yah! It seems as though the feast is on its way! I would keep telling my students early last year that you should push hard and fly your butt off because you don't want to be training when the hiring boom comes along. Thats when you want to be ready and willing.

I have other books that I read but I'm not at home and can't think of them off the top of my head. I'll let you guys know as soon as I get a chance.
