:yeahthat: Second year CAN be much more $$ than 23K, but recent history has shown that it is not always the case. IF things are moving then you will do OK second year. I've known guys that make it to the RJ and hold a line, second year, that hit 40K on average. For many of us the second year really was a big difference pay wise, but when the economy ground to a halt people got stuck. The lowest guys on the totem pole had a rough time. I'm sure they did everywhere in the regional world.
Newty is a poster child. . . .a very tall poster child, for a worst case scenario: stuck in the right seat of the lowest paying airplane for YEARS, while on reserve. BTW I've been really impressed with our low senority F/O's . . for that matter F/O's at any airline who stuck it out for these last few years on reserve. What is even more amazing is that most of them kept their chins up and carried a decent attitude during that time.
At least here it is easier for a line holder to make more $$ in any seat than a guy on reserve. ---- They will usually credit more each month than a reserve pilot. On the EMB it is at least 5 more hours. Generally line holders have an easier time picking up extra trips from open time as they have a few more days off each month than a reserve. Also more per diem with each pay check. Yes I know, we are not supposed to count that, but for a regional F/O it can add up to an extra few hundred bones each month.
