SkyWest Hiring FOs

Congratulations! Tell John G hello he is the absolute best. You will love the Bro, I really miss flying that plane with nearly all of the crews (cabin attendants included)
Thanks, can't wait!
If you have any questions before ground school pm me I'll give you my number and we can chat.

So is SkyWest scheduling interviews from candidates who have applied on AirlineApps/SkyWest.com or are they still only calling people from an ASA pool?

I have applied from SkyWest.com and also AirlineApps, but haven't heard anything.

Uh..perhaps you are mistaking ExpressJet's hiring with that of SkyWest's.

SkyWest Airlines has never pulled a new hire from the hiring pool of Atlantic Southeast. They perform their own hiring.

Future openings with ExpressJet and Atlantic Southeast will be selected from a single hiring department (currently out of Atlanta), and any potential candidates the company selects - prior to the start of future classes - will be placed in a pool under Atlantic Southeast, to be plucked out and sent to whichever operation the genius leadership decides to send them to.

Yes my mistake. I apologize. I had that mixed up.

Well in that case, lol, does anyone know how long it takes for your application to be reviewed and hear something from them?

I originally applied 2 months ago, but I was below the 100 multi and received the "you don't meet your minimums and keep updating" e-mail. So on the 5th I attempted to update, since I was over 100, but my browser crashed during the process. Well it turns out it somehow accepted my updated application, yet it was never technically updated. So I got the e-mail saying "We have received your app" and when I sign in online at their site it says they have received an application on the 5th. But this sucks because the 5th of January app was not updated and the same as the first they rejected for not meeting minimums.

Last week I was able to get in and edit my profile and successfully and posted my 100 hours and updated my resume. Yet when I sign in it still only shows the January 5th application and its status and not an application for the 11th when I successfully updated.

I am really confused and unsure what to do. Does anyone know of an HR e-mail address or someone I could talk to at SkyWest? Any advice?

Thanks!

James

:banghead: Leave it to the comp to always know the best time to crash.

I just got a call from SKW about my airline app stuff. Funny thing is I haven't updated my stuff since about October. I really want to come to a place like Skywest, but making a lateral move is making the decision difficult. I'm almost on 4th year pay at Comair and looks like I may still have a job here for at least another year or more. 30 guys quit in the last month, and at that rate, furloughs may get pushed farther back. It's either sit in DTW on reserve for a long time and get paid decently or take a paycut to perhaps have a better QOL at a better place. Ugh, I hate these decisions.

To add a little more to my above post, I just set up an interview for next month. They said they are hiring for the EMB. A few more questions. How's reserve life? Are guys getting lines quickly. I suppose I'll be sent to FAT. Is it hard to get bases such as PDX or SLC? Being based in Cali, are trips commutable? Is living on $22 an hour livable in Cali? Is there a seat lock? And any other information would be appreciated!

A 7th level of hell that I've been living the past three years, comuting to it would only make it worse (I do live in base)

Some of the UAL guys (sep class) have lines (I think) in FAT
Is it hard to get bases such as PDX or SLC?
PDX yes, SLC yes but not as bad as PDX
Being based in Cali, are trips commutable? Is living on $22 an hour livable in Cali?
Kinda... some FAT trips start with a DH to SFO/LAX and end mid-day, but I sure they are going senior
Is there a seat lock?
Yes, 1 yr.
And any other information would be appreciated!
I flew with a new-hire last week (one leg) who was former OH and made the jump. He's PSP based now.

That's a tough choice. Either way I hope it works out. Good luck with the interview!! If you do come here you'll find the Brasilia is a ton of fun to fly. I especially love the Cali flying. AND you will earn 100 extra testosterone points on your man card for doing so.

Up until a few months ago everyone had been stuck in their seat and domicile for at least two years. (Same deal everywhere of course.)

Things have been moving faster lately. Though it is hard to say where you will end up and how long it will take. I would expect California to start, but hopefully with the current movement you might be able to get an EMB base you want in a relatively short time. For example, due to the expansion of lines in Portland at least one new hire. . .well actually a former United, former SkyWest pilot, got Portland almost right out of IOE! He lives there and bid for it, but thought it would be a long shot. Some of the United guys, who have only been here around four months, are in SLC too.

Not sure where you would commute from, but Fresno and Palm Springs can be a bit of a pain commute wise, but that depends on where you come from. Overall I commuted to Fresno for about ten months from SLC and sometimes I could get direct and other times I had to go through LAX or even Vegas. It was OK but like everyone else says commuting stinks no matter how you slice it.

Not sure if $22 an hour is livable anywhere . . . but that discussion has been beaten like a dead equine. :)

I agree, although $22/hr seems to be the going rate for a first year FO. Not only are most of the bases tolerable, they are pretty awesome. How does one live in a place like Santa Barbara, LA, San Fran, etc.... on that kind of pay? Sugar momma is the only thing I can think of. I'm not that lucky.[/QUOTE

That makes two of us!:yup:

Out of curiosity, how did you guys make it on first year pay? Skywest is very appealing to me, but I am REALLY concerned about making it the first year without getting into credit card debt.

The usual ideas: Wife/girlfriend works, money saved up, if single sharing a room/apartment, or living with family, (Something I personally hate) low debt to begin with(Yeah right. . .).

I think we ended up going 2K or so into ccard debt and it could have been much worse. We had everything planned out.

What is it they say about the best laid plans?

My wife worked, I was lucky to have a very good CFI gig and we had some $$ saved up. . . . Then it was mostly eaten up by a family medical issue (pre-SkyWest health benefits).

How much? I have about $10k, which I'm hoping would be enough.

Think about it this way, 22*75(min guarantee)*12= first year pay + 10k (if you want to use all of it, the savings are tax free)

if you can't handle the total, then you can't handle the job :)
