Seggy on Emirates!

Wow. Pretty sure ATN and Seggy were in diapers when TP was flying for a major airline. Both of you got an accelerated start on your careers, benefited directly from the post 9/11 regional boom (while people like TP were furloughed and went overseas to make back the same pay.... they were not in their 20s living the single life at a regional), and then both of you got hired at a major at a very young age. As far as I'm aware, neither ever had to go through a furlough and have never missed an airline paycheck.

Some are on a high horse. TP isn't one of them.

 Just because one has been doing it 'longer' than another doesn't make them right.

No, but when it came to being out of line it was definitely you and ATN. Not TP. For how short your and ATN's career has been, you both exude this persona of self-proclaimed excellence. Point being TP has been around the patch many times over you and has the basis to make his comments based on his work as both a legacy US airline pilot AND as a former long term (10+ yr) Emirates pilot. Whereas the two of you just spout undocumented claims regarding Emirates and what it means for those who chose to go there instead of staying here. Both of you are emotional response based, TP is more factual and rational.

You would enjoy this place a lot more if this was all you saw when a certain someone posted:

So he has special interests in Emirates and you are believing him as he has no biases.

Sure...no emotion there...

Look Mark I don't have a dog in the fight so I know I dont have any biases but....

You said:

I replied with:

And just because one is doing it differently than another doesn't make them wrong.

And then you reply with:

Excuse me?

What this looks like from the outside is two people offering different opinions:
  • one has worked both in the US and as an Expat
  • one has worked solely in the US.
Both have been a success in their own respective ways. Then you replied that TP has biases because he has special interests in Emirates? Someone could make the same statement about anything you have said in this. How could TP's interests in Emirates be any different than yours in United?

I'll leave you with a statement from a plaque that used to sit on my grandfathers fireplace:

"Us old people know more about being young, than you young people know about being old".

If that needs explaining, then you are missing the point entirely.

Carry On !!!

He has no special interests. He doesn't work there anymore. So in the end he brings the only unique experience to the table: legacy US airline pilot, furloughed (probably more than once), Emirates pilot, and then to somewhere else. That's just fact. There's no emotion. He can be completely as honest as he wants about EK (and he has been) and there are no repercussions for him to do so.

It's extremely disappointing that some people are so gullible towards these foreign threats on here.

Agreed, but one person in particular is just an anti-union malcontent who hates anything that ALPA says or does, so he's only pro-EK because ALPA is anti-EK. You waste your time by dealing with him. He's a troll. Put him on the ignore list and deal with the people who actually matter.

Then stay out of it. This isn't a "touchy feely, let's all get along and have beers" situation. I feel this issue is pivotal to the future of my career. I have zero patience for those that want to lecture me on how I am wrong with my approach or thoughts on this subject.

What you don't know is that people I have zero common ground with I agree wholeheartedly in their approach to these carriers. ALPA has done a masterful job with this threat so far.

Just because I only worked for a US airline does that mean I'm wrong in my opinion. That is ridiculous.

I firmly believe these Middle East carriers are state owned enterprises that are creating an uneven playing field. @typhoonpilot has even agreed with me that some are. Of course he doesn't think his former airline is, I disagree with that.

Folks are being naive if they firmly believe these airlines are operating the same way US Carriers are.

As I said, I don't need a lecture or colloquialism.

Amen!

Hey Typhoon. Thanks for sticking with the site. The two ALPA goon trolls have no credibility. Sadly, they misrepresent a fine union with their biased, predictable, attacks here at JC. Both are on my ignore list but I had to check the thread. Seggy and ATn do a great disservice as representatives of ALPA because of the manner in which the post here. Very sad.

A few things Don...

1). Do you really think my viewpoint is different than ALPAs with these carriers and on these issues?

2). Interesting how you bash me, yet you feel the need to call me a 'goon'. Real professional on your part...

3). I'm waiting for a moderator to give a lecture to Don about his attack as I've been (and ATN) given lectures for saying far less.

That is so far from the truth it's not even funny. I'm only pro-EK because I have flown on them several times (both as non-rev and as rev) and have always been impressed with their product, service, fleet, and route network. Your suggestion of putting people on the ignore list really shows more about you than it does me. I get it, you can't handle criticism. Which is surprising considering that you (like me) are very vocal on what you believe. But I don't block people. My observation is that you used to be all over flightinfo and APC back in the day before you driven from there because people called you out on your BS and you couldn't handle that. You found a sanctuary on JC which is your last remaining hope for online pilot forum activity. You now protect this at all cost by adding anyone you disagree with on the ignore list.

I consult and teach the B777 and B787 for a certain large aircraft manufacturer.

TP

Ooh, oooh, it's Airbus Corp! ;)

Pivotal to the future of your career? You'll retire a United pilot. You are free to believe what you want, but showing zero patience when people refute you based on published financial audits doesn't really help your cause. You can believe whatever you want - it doesn't make your beliefs any more truer.

You gave an Amen to Seggy's comment about it being pivotal to the future of his career. How does this affect you? You promised to walk away from this career before the horrors of transitioning into a higher paying 737 job. Unless the UAE decides to invade Georgia and attack the real estate market, I'd say it's a safe bet your future is secure despite Emirates.
