Scabs

You tend to keep coming off as though you have been near to the situation.. IE You have been through a strike yourself.. I thought - just from the way you have been presenting yourself - that you were a fighter pilot who had been through a strike.. Just based on your attitude/comments/etc in a couple threads..
Then you're not reading carefully enough. Go back and re-read my posts.

Let's say you have 3 men standing around..

Guy A - has never been divorced, never known anyone to divorce, etc..
Guy B - had his parents divorce when he was a kid, lived with the struggles a divorce causes, etc..
Guy C - Is a divorced male..

Now..

Guy A has zero experience and his opinion holds very little weight on the subject..

Guy B has a great deal of experience with divorce and his opinion holds a good deal of weight..

Guy C has perhaps, all the experience one might care to have on the subject, and his opinion of course holds more weight than Guy A and B..

To say that anything Guy B has to say on the topic of divorce is worthless - is just silly..
Think so? Come back when you ARE Guy C and let us know if your opinion still holds.

The flaw in your logic is that Guy B, not actually having been divorced himself, actually has ZERO experience with divorce. My parents divorced when I was 10, so I know what it's like to be the child of divorce, yet I am not so naive as to think I have any clue what my parents experienced in the course of their divorce. Same holds true for being the child of a striking pilot, and being a striking pilot.

"You may think you know, but you have no idea...."

Wow.. MTSU really hates a scab..

Can't say I'd let it go that far, and I would almost bet he wouldn't either...

you're saying what he posted is over emotional non-reality based diatribe???? GOOD HEAVENS SOMEONE GET THE PRESIDENT ON THE PHONE

Then you're not reading carefully enough. Go back and re-read my posts.

I have.. You, be it purposefully or not, keep coming off as trying to be extremely knowledgeable on many subjects..

BTW - How many Top Gun instructors do you know.. Like, could pick up the phone and say "wanna go to lunch" and they would say "sure" not "who is this??"

Think so? Come back when you ARE Guy C and let us know if your opinion still holds.

Tell you what, why don't you get some 121 time and come in here and let us know what you've learned.. ;)

You don't want to hear FIRSTHAND opinions, you have already discounted them..
...
I saw what my dad and uncle went through.. from what I learned there has taught me the way I feel today..
Dude, go look up the definition of what "First-hand" means. Seriously.

Your observations as a child of what your dad and uncle experienced cannot possibly compare with their actually experience. First off, as a child, you undoubtedly made attributions much different from what an adult would, and second, you didn't actually experience it! :banghead:

Dude, go look up the definition of what "First-hand" means. Seriously.

Dude.. From http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/first hand

first·hand /ˈfɜrstˈhænd/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[furst-hand] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adverb
1. from the first or original source: We heard the news of the accident firsthand from a witness.
–adjective
2. of or pertaining to the first or original source.
3. direct from the original source: firsthand knowledge of the riot.

Lets see..

1. I heard the news of the scabs firsthand from my dad.. :)
2. My dad was on strike and I lived in his house for the duration.
3. I have firsthand knowledge of the strike. Was I on the picket line? No.. Was I sitting there when my dad spoke of it to my mom? Yes..

Now, should I use the definition you'd like me to use or websters?

Why do you even post in this post? You have zero first hand 121 knowledge.. ;)

Like I said, I'll try and get my pops on here.. We'll see.. I wouldn't hold your breath..

BTW - How many Top Gun instructors do you know.. Like, could pick up the phone and say "wanna go to lunch" and they would say "sure" not "who is this??"
All the fighter pilots I know personally and well enough to call up and do lunch with right now:

1 current USAF Fighter Weapons School instructor (F-15s).
1 current USAF Thunderbird pilot.
1 former USAF Thunderbird pilot.
1 current Canadian Snowbirds pilot.
1 current 422 TES (operational test) pilot (A-10s).
1 current USAF F-22 pilot.
1 current AFRES F-16 stan/eval flight examiner and instructor pilot.
1 current ANG F-16 pilot.

You?

Tell you what, why don't you get some 121 time and come in here and let us know what you've learned.. ;)

That's exactly my point, bro: I have zero 121 experience, which is exactly why I don't harbor any illusions that my opinions on scabbing carry any weight whatsover, and why I haven't posted them.

You?

So what you are saying is.. You know 0 Top Gun instructors? :)

I don't think you guys quiet get the real implications of what a scab does, has on the workforce and the industry. This is a person who is working, taking money, while you are on the street NO income trying to make a positive change.

But would you or MTSU really leave an innocent wife of scab to face probable death? Not man worth his salt should.

Your dad conveying his experiences to you = firsthand.
You conveying to us what your dad conveyed to you = secondhand.

See it yet?

But we don't have any first hand experiences on here.

Second-hand > none-hand for now

and with that, you aren't worth my time anymore. I'm out of this one.

Your dad conveying his experiences to you = firsthand.
You conveying to us what your dad conveyed to you = secondhand.

Ok, I will admit, you are making this very confusing.. Now hold my hand on this one.. ;)

Ok, so what if I conveyed to you, MY feelings on scabs, what would that be?

Is that umm.. firsthand or umm.. secondhand?

Now, while you answer that, answer this:

Your observations as a child of what your dad and uncle experienced cannot possibly compare with their actually experience.

So, would these observations be first or second hand?? Because, my reply to the above quote, is what made you tell me to look up the definition of firsthand, which, you have just admitted, what my father relayed to me, is indeed firsthand..

First off, as a child, you undoubtedly made attributions much different from what an adult would, and second, you didn't actually experience it!

Ok, in this example - my observations were indeed, first hand... as you have just so nicely demostrated.. So.. umm.. what were the observations in this above post?

Havin' fun yet? :D

Now you're just splitting hairs. There's virtually no difference between the Air Force and Navy Fighter Weapons Schools.

There's a ton of different..

Air Force kiddo's can't land on a ship... ;) However, that's for another thread..

He would no longer be welcome in my home, my church, my kids couldn't hang out with his. I wouldn't pull over if his wife was broke down on the wrong side of town, surround by hoodlums ready to have at her. I really wouldn't care if they robbed and beat her, and she had no way to protect herself. After all, he wasn't looking out for my family.

Pretty much agree with MTSU here. If you scab, and are lucky(?) enough to keep your job after the strike is over; be prepared to never hear a coworkers voice except to run checklists, keep your flight kit and commuter kit under lock and key, lest it come up missing or with various odorus additions on a regular basis, don't drive your good car to the company parking lot because it will get keyed and tire valve stems ripped out at least once a month. You will never be invited or have your invitation accepted for dinner or beers on a layover, and will be ignored on the crew bus. Oversleep and late by one minute for the hotel van? Start looking for a cab, 'cause the other pilot will have left you without a thought. Not a fun way to spend the next 20 years or so working, even if you change jobs, because your scab background will follow you.

Sprint, I sure hope you aren't planning to try to fly part 121 in the future, your negative networking here will follow you.

Now Mike, I don't know if you read the rules of this post..

Unless this is firsthand information, it is simply not allowed.. ;)

Sprint, I sure hope you aren't planning to try to fly part 121 in the future, your negative networking here will follow you.

Negative networking:confused: If this keeps me from getting a job, which I doubt it will, then to &%^* with it. All my eggs aren't in one basket. Someone wishing ill-will on someone they never met and no nothing about says alot in regards to the "wishers" character.

Negative networking:confused: If this keeps me from getting a job, which I doubt it will, then to &%^*

He's not wishing ill on you..

He's letting you know that is it not generally a good thing to be known as "Pro-Scab"

Will it keep you from getting a job? Of course not...

Not a whole lotta carrier traps happening at NAS Fallon, Nevada, where Top Gun is run....

Very good, grasshoppa.
