Republic Files Chapter 11

I've seen it too. It's a double edged sword. It should benefit every other regional. But that's no reason to rejoice.
It almost seems to me like a zero-sum game.

"Yay, X Airlines is getting ***AE-tail number 145s! We're going so fast! Look at these fabulous shiny jets!" (And meanwhile, at Envoy - etc.)
I'm a little worried this could end up being us. People are coming through the door, just not in numbers anyone is happy with.
My own personal prediction is that ExpressJet will shrink itself out of existence, at least on the 145 side.

Yep. And it's not limited to everyone's favorite non-union carrier either. Someone comes along who has a more advantageous cost structure (say, because nobody has worked there longer than 20 minutes), who has the right airplane for the customer at the right prices, and you suddenly find yourselves at a massive disadvantage. Through no fault of your own either.

Best you can do is hang on and stay prepared, I suppose.

Truth.

At the risk of pissing off a number of friends and readers of JC, ya gots to move up the food chain.

Stability at all levels of the profession is a panacea, however, I'd heavily warn against long term career plans at a carrier where the paint doesn't match the paycheck.

Truth, I used the word incorrectly, but you know what I'm getting at.

Is it right that you can't make a stable career at a regional, nope.

But if you look at what the majors are doing in terms of "insourcing" flying, it's going to be a much, much different industry in another five years.

DAMN DANIEL!

Daniel, my brother? :)

This guy?

If you guys can start getting some good numbers in and get that upgrade time down. Things should drastically start to get better there, with the new contract.

If they're smart, they will. If they're not, they'll re-subcontract.

I think they will. Or at least I will say that they are in a strong position to. Big 737 order just placed, they could put A319s and older 737s on these routes and probably increase revenue. It would be a huge industry setting precedent to do so, and I think the other legacies have that in the back of their minds as well.

Some already are.

Yeah, but don't they also now get more 76 seaters for regional feed due to these new 737 orders?

I honestly don't know the intimate details. I just see a time where other regionals can't take over the flying, lots of people including myself want to see the regional model go away and have main line take that fling back. This is an opportunity to do it and sure it's hopeful thinking but it's been talked about too much to be a rediculous notion.
