Reporting a violation

Asking "How do I report another pilot to the FAA?" is like asking "How do I report someone as a pedophile". You need to be 100% SURE about what you are saying before you pull the trigger. I wouldn't wish a FAA enforcement action on my worst enemy.

That said, if I was sure a pilot was putting myself and others in jepordy, I would exaust every option before I called the feds.

Not really. I've been reported to the FSDO at least twice. On both occasions the FSDO told the reporter that what I was doing was perfectly legal. They did not even call me- I found out about the calls on their next visits over lunch.

Perhaps he wasn't aware of you either in which case you should be grateful for not having a collision.

Without getting into an entire page explanation, he knew exactly I was there, and got in formation with me, not knowing who I was. I was at 3000' and he was at around 1000' when I first saw him. I witnessed him directly below me, following my path, aggressevilty pitch his Grumman Tiger up to gain altitude. The aircraft slowed down and seemed to get back into normal, level flight below me. He then pitched up yet again very aggressively and got closer to my altitude, however since I was in cruise, he ended up below and behind me. I turned 90deg away, to the north at this point(I was heading east). I then witnessed him turn in my direction, again still below and behind me. He again picked up forward speed while appearing level, then aggressively pitched up one last time, until he was at my altitude. I watched him come up from my 4-5 o'clock, following my path. I started a shallow turn to the left to get away from him, and he turned left towards me. He finally got off my right wing in a loose formation, and it def got the pax attention that were on board. At that point I pulled the power back in the skyhawk I was in and let him fly past me, and I turned due east again and passed well behind him. He knew exactly that I was there, and it was a very idiotic move. He's known as a cowboy and because of his actions, from that point on I always warned my solo students on exactly what to do should they enconter the same situation. I also told this pilot exactly that, that there are solo students in the practice area, and they are nervous enough and don't need pilots doing stupid things to them. And then to deny everything to my face after pulling him aside, really says something. So yeah, he knew I was there.

What does hotdogging it mean? If it means low level turns and maneuvers close to an airport then you should get used to it, that is essentially the modus operandi of all ag flying.
Or avoid all airfields where ag pilots operate out of...stay in class C I guess?

Steep banked turns, over an airport, and low at literally tree top levels, opposite the traffic pattern, with traffic in the pattern, at an untowered airport with heavy student activity in again, a Grumman Tiger, is what I would consider hotdoggin. He's not an ag pilot, he shouldn't be doing those kinds of things near an airport like that.

Not all of us brunch with the air cops.

If Boris is correct and you know who this is, then you have to confront him in person - it's the masculine way.

If it is just some random goofball and he did this and it irritated you - zap him if you wish. But, if you know the guy or know who this is, you need to get all up in his grill. Winning!

Just like to see your own typing, don't you?
Well... like I said, situations happen with this outfit many times and I have, every time, confronted in person or over the radio. It is not helping and neither is the poor judgement of some on here. Some may still believe I am just a "sand in my •" narc, but the King Air will see my attention whether you like it or not. I have gotten my course of action from someone's post on here, as well as my director of training and safety, and also the TRACON supervisor. It has been documented and I WILL do it again if I have too. This was the last resort. F you!... F you!... F you!... You're cool!... F you, I'm out.

Your initial post didn't mention IMC at all. To me it sounded like you were upset because someone on a VFR day caused you to change your heading by a couple of degrees. Had that been the case you would have been a bad person. The definition of a bad person. But you elaborated and it is pretty obvious that the King Air guy is endangering his and other lives by entering IMC without a clearance. If you feel you need to drop a dime on him I wouldn't judge you for it, but I think it is probably duplicated effort if it got mentioned by the TRACON to you.

Wow. I guess I will retort with:

F you as well.

Why are you lashing out like this. Is that stable? Should someone report you to aeromedical for anger management?

Shack. +1 and exactly what I mean by letting TRACON handle it.......in a matter of speaking, the FAA already "knows about it".
YES SIR!!! If it was that big of a deal you should have told TRACON about it when you saw the guy come out of the clouds, you know since TRACON had him on radar and eventually talked to him... I got a great laugh out of this stuff

My thats a tasty spam burger you have there; flame broiled even. Allow me to retort:

Pilots like you deserve a punch in the nose, and id rather take a punch in the mouth than deal with another tool bringing down the entire industry. Its hard enough to make a living in this industry without someone constantly stabbing someone in the back. In my 3000 hours of flying ive never once thought, "man, i should report this person." Ive wanted to sock plenty of people, but i wouldnt go as far as to get someone violated. Theres a circle of hell reserved for people like you. Have fun being the sky police.

I feel dumber after having read this thread. So......correct me if I am wrong.........if you don't have a thousand posts your questions are not taken seriously?.......or threatened with a punch in the nose?
What a joke.
If you don't agree with a person's point of view or actions, you can always use your big boy/girl words to disagree.

Gulp. Holy Mama! The tone, class and style has certainly changed in this neck of the woods. Wow.

I find it hard to pass judgement based off the limited info here but I would like to say there is a difference between willful ignorance and violation of the regs and someone who simply has a deviation.

However from a TRACON standpoint given this situation, I have no way of knowing other than the hearsay from the OP that this King Air flew through IMC. In such a case like USMCmech said you'd better be sure you know and don't just speculate because someone's livelihood and future could be at stake. I as a TRACON controller would probably not to subtly infer what suspected and move on. No PD because it can't be proven.

I would like to say I appreciate all of the mature posts here. There were many who just lashed out and not only did they miss an opportunity to make their point, they showed an incredible lack of maturity. I guy had a valid concern, he may have been going about it in a way you don't agree with, but then you have the opportunity to get them to see your point of view. Instead you alienated him...nice work.

Word Bumblebee. There is a LOT of that kinda crap that happens on this site. Sure does get old. I think it discourages people from posting legitimate questions. Sure would be nice if people could exercise a little bit of tact in their responses. I certainly agree that we should absolutely refrain from turning someone in to the FAA unless it truly is a LAST resort, but I think we failed this guy in how his question was answered. I would have to guess that if some of the 'bashers' were having this discussion with the guy face to face and one on one, they would answer WAY more respectfully than how they answer on this site.

Actually, your judgement put that thought in your head. Try not to think the worst of people, dude.

f you don't have a thousand posts

Yeah if you don't have at least a thousand posts, you can't possibly know what you're talking about....
Still a low timer myself. I am just hoping to build up my post count to, one day, get to that magical 1000 TPIC (Total Posts in Concurrence). Of course you have to concur with the vocal minority unless you want to be alienated even further. :insane:
