Reporting a violation

Didn't think I had to explain since the question was how to report, and he has done this many, many, many, many times. It's not right and it bothers and freaks me out. I have put up with this for years and have had enough. But, for all of you assuming I'm just an ass, it was overcast at 1500, the tops were at 5200 MSL. Yes, he can legally take off VFR, BUT HE FLEW THROUGH SOLID CLOUDS DURING HIS VFR RULES BEFORE GETTING AN IFR CLEARANCE!!! Approach even complained to me about it! Does this help your attitudes?

Nobody has an attitude. People were responding to the question that you posted. The terms IFR and IMC mean different things, so people answered your question as stated.

On the other side, as soon as I read "IFR," I assumed that it was a typo and you meant IMC which fits the context of the message much better. Shrug it off.

:)

I don't fly in the Northeast or in LA and I don't care. I'm sure all these busy places have control towers as well. 2 miles, both airplanes traveling at 175 kts (at least) and towards each other is close enough for me, especially since I can't see him. Approach screamed a vector for me to turn, and it really made me nervous! Breaking rules is one thing, breaking rules that involves my safety is another.

Remember, people can only go by what you post. So if you post incomplete info, thats all people have to go on. Make the post complete..

You are very right, but I really didn't want to have to explain the entire story over again, I was just looking for an answer. I really didn't expect the attitudes and slander.

I can name a ton of immensely busy places in the NE or LA area without towers where the first time you talk to someone is with departure. Not everywhere is dead empty airspace like SD is, and if you ever come to our busy areas of airspace, I hope your "I don't care" mindset changes reaaallll fast.

I understand your frustration. I agree with Mike on this one. What should have been done is this. Fill out NASA report. Get the phone number from the TRACON, call them up to officially complain so they have to get the ball rolling. Sit back and wait for whatever happen to happen. That's about all you can do.

I think because we like to over analyze things here. We are wondering why you are wanting to violate someone.

This does help me understand the situation. If you have an N number, it would indeed be time to get to work.

I Don't think you guys know what the NASA form is for. The Feds never see these reports until an investigation is underway and the offender is called out on an incident, at which point the offender's NASA report can be referenced. You could report violations all day long on NASA forms and it wont get you anywhere with the FAA. Its two separate government bureaucracy's with no interconnect until letters are sent out and the investigations begin.

Yeh, this..

I thought a NASA form was basically like rolling over on your meth dealer so you'd get a lesser sentence.. Not really what you'd use to turn the meth lab in with..

If you just want to know how to file a complaint about another pilot you might try posting this question:

"How do I go about filing a complaint about another pilot?"

However, if you're going to post a limited information story about how your life flashed before your eyes and you want a little pay back, don't be surprised by the responses you get.

Also, you might want to look this one up before you use it incorrectly....again.

NASA/ASRS forms are for the improvement of safety in the entire aviation system

If the King Air was actually busting through IMC in controlled airspace without a clearance then he needs to be smacked. Sorry, I don't buy the big sky little bullet theory and I've had enough of these near misses- a few were only saved by TCAS. It's only going to take one of these jokers flying into an airliner full of paying pax and the proverbial turd will roll down hill and all of GA will be caught up in it.
I would go the route of trying to talk to the offending pilots first, if you can. If that does not work try the airport manager. If that fails, then by all means go to the FSDO. We had a "problem child" in our area- an AG operation. They were down right rude, nasty and dangerous. Cutting people off in the pattern, yelling at people on the radio to get away from a public use airport, had one land over me on a taxi way, saw one of their pilots "dog fight" a solo student who had no idea what to do, had them cut me off when I was landing several times. We tried to reason with the guy but he told us to pack sand and go to a different airport. We talked to the airport manager who begged us to call the FSDO (not sure why the coward did not do it himself). Called the operator's POI and within a week they were the most polite pilots you would ever meet.

And again? I don't think there is a need for this

Thank you.... Finally
