PUBNAT3

7-18-08-Approved to take AT-SAT
8-13-08-AT-SAT taken
8-18-08-AT-SAT score 97

I called the HR department on numerous occasions with no one answering. So I emailed the following on 9-12-08....

"Hello.

My name is D. Gardner. For the past month I have been attempting to contact you guys via the telephone number provided on the ASAP website. I received a score of 97 on my pre-employment test. I was inquiring on what the next step in the hiring process."

Regards,

I didn't receive a respond until 10-2-08. Here is why everything is taking so long.

"I apologize for not answering your e-mail earlier; we are currently experiencing an overwhelming number of e-mails and phone calls.

This is a lengthy process and could take a year, as a minimum, or longer from the day you apply to the day you would be able to start the academy.

We have a selection panel that convenes once a quarter to make their selections, so you will not receive the geographical preference e-mail until approximately 2 months prior to a selection panel conveying. We will then create referral lists for the panel that will make tentative selections from that announcement. If you are selected, you will be contacted to get you set up for an interview and to attend a Pre-Employment Processing Center (PEPC) for your medical and security; this could take approximately 3 months after the conclusion of the selecting process. After completing the required medical and security examines, it could take up to several months before we could get you scheduled into an academy class. This depends upon the number of classes that we have scheduled and whether or not they have been filled. As you can see, the hiring process is lengthy, so your patience is greatly appreciated.

If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you,

Micki Griffin"

So if any of you are getting antsy about the hiring process. Give it about a year. Continue with your current employment and eventually they'll get to you.:banghead:

Call me silly, but since PUBNAT2 had September panels, and considering September was the end of the last quarter, that would make the next quarter October through December. Which means the next set of panels would meet at some point in that time frame according to the "We have a selection panel that convenes once a quarter to make their selections..." part of these emails people are posting, making a November/December panel the perfect fit for PUBNAT3. Just a little something to ponder while we wait....

Bull.

I don't believe Micki for a second. She mass e-mails the same exact words to EVERYONE, even if they don't ask the same question.

Just remember, we are dealing with a gov't that have a single answer for every group. But I am not going to get started on that. Unforantely, I think the FFAA shot themselves in the foot because of how many PUBNAT's they did so close together.

Actually, even though the course is long, a new one starts 2 or 3 times monthly. Everyone from PUBNAT3 does not attend the same course.
thanks for the info thats good news I was under the impression that classes were only every three months.

Make sure that's where you really want to go. Miami and Oakland centers are the two that you'll consistently hear are the worst ones to work at. Training backlogs and stuff like that. Have you contacted any NATCA reps from Miami or other centers to talk with them?

I've spoken with a dozen NATCA center representatives for different facilities and I have asked: what one center do you recommend I do not work at? The answer has been Miami every time but one (when they said Oakland). Often they would answer Miami and Oakland.

Yeah I actually have some family and friends at the Miami center I have done a tour a couple of years ago and I am trying to set up another tour in nov. True that it is a busy center but I really like the Miami lifestyle and I like things faster pace and more of a challenge like the Miami center. I went to Miami Dade Community College for school <didnt graduate I am totally siked to become a controller. So after my life story just saying im postive I want to be there but I want to be a controller no matter what so if I wind up somewhere else I wont be totally heart broken.

From the info you said about the miami center :yeahthat: would you think that it is easier to get into than other centers?

I'm under the impression that it's not, because of the training backlog. But that could be wrong. Probably the best info you could get is from your family/friends that work there :)

PUBNAT3-Employment with TSA

7-18-08-Approved to take AT-SAT

8-13-08-AT-SAT taken:yeahthat:
8-18-08-AT-SAT score 97:D

I currently work for TSA. I've been there for 3+ years now. It's a cool position, but we don't get paid for what they expect us to do.:banghead:

Re: PUBNAT3-Employment with TSA

Great job on the AT-SAT but ...Uh...why don't you move your signature to the bottom of your posts, or get rid of it all together.

"The number of people in the hiring pool varies during the year
as the agency recruits applicants, evaluates them, and draws from the pool. However,
the overall goal is to maintain a pool of between 3,000 and 5,000 candidates available
for consideration by selection panels at any one time. During FY 2007, the agency’s
recruitment and advertising activities enabled the FAA to successfully maintain this pool
in the target range."
Explains why the process takes forever... But a bummer just the same.

We have far more than 3-5k with PUBNAT3,4,5,6 combined.

That doesn't explain anything.

I e-mailed a HR rep. and she responded within minutes. Looks like not only must we wait until January, but we may have a combined-announcement panel on our hands...

(Name),
The next selection panels at this time are scheduled for Jan 09, i am not
sure how many of the announcements they will be using at that time, but
would be for sure they will at the least use #3. So dependent on your
score would depend on if you are reachable for consideration on the
referrals. We appreciate your continued interest in employment as a ATCS.

Ok, maybe it's just me but I would think given the shortage of controllers that this would be a higher priority, and that a more efficient system would be set in place. Mind you I'm not saying such a thing would be EASY, but I have a hard time believing that the way they are doing things now is the best possible way.
