Pacific Wings/New Mexico Airlines

I wouldn't put so much stock in the "paint to fool the FAA" argument, seeing as how the black paint would make the Rime stand out really well on the leading edges while its taxiing for takeoff at the huge megahub of an airport that is sure to have someone from the FSDO watching.

It's not an "argument", it's something I saw.

Because ice stands out on a black leading edge alot easier than it does on white, therefore you see it forming in small amounts and can take early action about it, not after it's stuck there for awhile?

I'm not doubting for a second that @Boris Badenov saw rhime on a black leading edge, I just don't buy the explanation for having a black leading edge.

Not that I'm chearleading for this obvious failure of an airline. If I had a choice between working a streetcorner in ISN and being a PacificWings FO, the choice would not be an easy one to make.

What other reason could there possibly be for painting the LE black?
Not sure but when I flew for them in Maui in 2008 their leading edges were pretty white. Here's a pic from back then:

Painting leading edges black is super common up here, makes it much easier to spot early ice accretion.

Or if you're in a 207 you can just go way old school and when you get enough ice on the tire that it rolls over, it's time to divert.

Maui white leading edges are camo for beach landings. Uh, not those with black sand.

Besides, real boots come from L.L.Bean. Wicked good, Leon!

I was a captain for this company for a short period of time in 2013. It wasn't bad. If you go in as an FO the pay sucks but I am an FO for a regional now and it is only a few hundred dollars more than PW FO pay. If you go in with a positive attitude and just do what you are told and follow the regulations, you can build time, get some good experience, and walk into a regional job with a nice recommendation. The MX was just fine. I have flown a lot worse. Some planes were equipped for FIKI some were not. If you expected icing, you took the booted plane. All places have good and bad. I honestly miss flying there. It was a small group of pilots that, for the most part, got along well and worked well together. The past had some real horror stories and I only saw a few things that I read about. Yes, you have to load bags and deice. Yes, you have to play flight attendant and brief the pax. There are worse alternatives and if I wasn't jumpseating every week to work, I would have stayed. Just remember, keep an open mind and good attitude and it can be fun. For those who have not worked there, don't judge, it may be the best job in the world for someone. Don't compare it to a regional because it isn't. It is a small company and everyone has to work together. Some days suck but all jobs have that. Good luck and go with your gut.

I'd almost believe you if I hadn't heard first hand accounts from a trusted friend. Ultimately, there are some operators who treat pilots right and consequently gain positive reputations and have no trouble staffing.

Then there are places like this.

Hey, I've even heard 1 or 2 people sing the praises of Great Lakes.
