Pacific Wings/New Mexico Airlines

I'm not exactly sure you understand.

The company "spray-painted" the leading edges of their Caravan to give the appearance that the aircraft is equipped with de-ice boots, when in fact it is not.

This alone should be enough to send you running in the opposite direction at warp speed.
No I didn't understand. Wow! That's sketchy! Did they get busted?

A VFR captain there got violated and his license suspended or revoked recently. They pressured him to fly when the weather was bad and then midflight he felt the only safe thing to do was pick up a popup IFR. He should have declared an emergency but didn't. Then the company self-disclosed the violation and bam.

Stay away. Stay far, far away. Nothing good can come from that place. The lack of professionalism and ethics from the management at that company would make your jaw drop. A friend of mine flew there for awhile in their Hawaii ops and he showed some of the emails that the CEO/management types would send out. I'm talking about the CEO blasting out emails to all the pilots making fun of and intimidating named individuals who had dared to speak out against the unsafe and illegal practices of the company. Things supposedly got so bad that most/all of the mechanics quit and the company was forcing the pilots to go into the hangar and turn wrenches on airplanes. Don't want to do that? Ok, you're fired. Don't want to fly through IMC conditions on a VFR flight plan or as a VFR only captain? Ok, you're fired. And to put up with all of that for the peanuts they pay you while living in such an expensive locale is insane.

Georgia Skies, New Mexico Airlines, Pacific Wings are all one and the same. Though I believe their Hawaii ops were shut down due to the illegal mx practices. Regardless, you put yourself at greater risk of violation and losing your certs by working there for those "people". Don't do it. Let them sink.

I've posted this once before, but...

If that picture were an airline, it would be New Mexico Airlines. If that's all true, it almost makes me want to work there just to document it all before someone dies.

30k a year and all the tacos you can eat. How are your baggage tossing skills? How many hours do you have on Microsoft's Flight Sim, that's your training there. Oh, and bring your sleeping bag, you'll need it.

Not much sim time, but I know my way around NM and who specifically to talk to to get through the WSMR ranges the short way, as opposed to the corridor-bound long way......... :)
Gawd!!! That would give the pax something to put on you tube! lmao

We were just cruising through, drinking our sodas and suddenly......

They effed over a friend of mine pretty hard. Got hired as an "FO" on the Caravan and basically had them doing grunt work for no flight time. I forget if their FOs can log SIC time in the 'van, but then you have to ask yourself if that constitutes flight time that any real company would care about.

If I were you, I'd make up a fake name and mail them a resume smeared in feces. From everything I've heard, management there deserves to get pink eye.

The DNA, prints, other evidence, and the use of the US postal system to do it, would get him sent VFR-direct to Gitmo for that one. :D

Yeah I hear the F/Os ride a desk way more than they get to fly and they are at beck and call to do whatever has to be done around the place on those days.

I know it gets irritating hearing "run don't walk" about every operator you have the time for. We've all been there. But there are degrees of bad. There are those jobs where you work really hard and don't get paid much and it kind of sucks but you stick it out to get your time in and move on.

Then there's a whole different class where you just thank your lucky stars that you got out alive and un-violated (er, at least by the FAA). By all accounts PW is the later. I've never heard one positive thing about them from anyone who ever worked there (and I've talked to several, both current and past). I can personally verify the painted boots story. I reached up and touched one that came in to Hartsfield one day with about a half inch of rime on it. There were no boots, just black paint.

You'd be better off washing dishes. At least that's honest work.

You could always wear gloves, not lick the envelope, and use dog poo instead!

BRB, I have an idea...............

(Just kidding. Don't tase me.)

Would they hire me as a street Captain? Would like to work my way to chief pilot.
I can see from here that you're overqualified for a chief pilot position at Pacific Wings due to your level of integrity. Therefore, you're unlikely to be hired.

Bummer.

I once had a professor who told us tales of commuting in his Bonanza through the more restricted parts of New Mexican airspace. Cool guy.

Incidentally, to give an example of an operator that fits more in to the "work hard for not much pay, but don't fear for your life or certificate" category, have you looked at Air Cargo Carriers flying the Irish Concorde up there in Wisconsin? The F/O pay is, I think, abysmal, and of course it's freight flying in an old school airplane (so, you know, it's Work), but I believe they at least used to hire guys in the "very low time" area (~500-700 hours, IMS) and I've had a fair amount of interaction with guys who have worked there over the years. I won't say that every review was "glowing", but they were generally positive, and certainly nothing even remotely like the PW guys I've talked to.

Plus you're actually a type certificate required crewmember, so you can log it! Not to mention the obvious "hair on chest" benefits...
