Pacific Wings/New Mexico Airlines

Never said anyone was getting fired. All I know is that there are a fair amount of people on here who have their hand in hiring people. If I was in a position to say yay or nay and saw you say the company was "not so good", your resume would end up in the round file.

I think you missed the point, he puts the "not so good" in quotes because he is quoting what others have said, not his own words.

However, my experience on THIS forum tells me I shouldn't speak my mind and defend companies

Well, you probably shouldn't "defend" them if you've never worked there. There's nothing complex here. Say what you've heard and what you've seen. Make sure the difference is clear. eg. "Well, I HEARD that PW sucks" or "I SAW them operating a non-FIKI airplane in known ice" *headscratch*

Correct!

You're right. I'm learning.

2 things....one is what's up with this vfr crap? What's the point in scheduled service using vfr only captains?

Second, my former company leased a caravan from their NM operation for a bit and it had boots, but we replaced every single main panel instrument when it got there. Eventually gave it back to them. Plus there was issues with the baggage agreement not being accepted by AA and US anymore due to some strife between PacWings and those carriers. So that agreement ended with the lease.

I don't know historically about the vfr only captains. But I applied before I read much on here and I recently got invited to the interview. They require 135 IFR minimums for captains and told me I would upgrade upon reaching them.

I don't see why any scheduled charter/commuter would be vfr only. But I really don't know much about it.

All I know is they must be desperate....I applied at 10pm and heard back the next morning around 11. 13hrs??? Oh, and I'm at 300tt.

And if anyone else is interested the information I got states that you must be willing to check passengers in and throw bags. People on here were right.

Oh well. Life goes on...

Don't be discouraged. At least you made the right move by coming on here and asking for advice before even going on that interview. I know it's tough as all hell starting out and trying to build hours, let alone make a living. It's just not worth it going to a hell hole and putting yourself at risk and all the stress. Keep networking, keep your ear to the ground, keep inquiring about and looking at different venues/options. You'll get plenty of ideas/suggestions and support here. Hang in there.

I'm not discouraged. I have had a ton of leads from this site and others. So I know if I keep at it and build some time on the side then it should work out.

I am able to fly to Albuquerque for free so I am considering going to the Pacific Wings interview just for the experience. To be honest...I have only interviewed for one flying job and it was a small part 91 gig flying a Barron. It would be nice to see what a "real" flying interview looks like. Although, I'm not sure if PW would resemble any other 121 or 135 company as far as the interview goes.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I'd imagine it would be the old "can you fog a mirror" test followed by indoc. I wouldn't waste the time to go down there, myself, but have a good trip and just watch out for random lighting strikes in case God's finally gotten around to dispensing some Justice and his aim is off by a few feet.

BINGO!!! Frankly, going on interviews during the same time frame at decent places is very worth it. But, I really wouldn't waste the time and effort to bother with PW though. And it will probably not be a true gauge of much, except what you don't want to hear at any interview. When you get an interview from a better venue, just post on here and you'll get some decent advice on how to proceed. Or, you could go and take @MikeD's resume with you. lol We could take up a collection just to send him over there to kick some collective ass.

Most of their aircraft have boots now. The spray paint thing was when they brought some Hawaii aircraft to the mainland to start these operations up.

Most???? That's comforting.

As much as I hate to defend a scumbag operation like Tsunami, there is a legitimate argument for removing deice boots.

Provided the aircraft is rarely if ever going to be operated IFR or in cold temperatures, the deice boots are excess weight, drag, and Mx.

Back when I interviewed, and caused a thread just like this, they had a young FO interview me. It wasn't hard, basic HR stuff, and some IFR and systems questions. Other than the fact that I was probably older than the guy interviewing me, and probably had more flight time it wasn't to unlike other airline interviews I've been on. Probably the second easiest though.

Lol, I cant believe we are talking about PW again... jgheggie, let me know who the CP is....I worked for this company several years ago and to be honest I am glad it is going down (not fast enough)...Hawaii base is closed, Georgia and Kentucky bases are closed...And correct me if I am wrong, but I believe they are affiliated with Air Choice One now, or ACO is taking over PW..

Anyways, stay away from this so called carrier. They will ruin your carrier if you are not careful and they will leave a bad taste in your mouth...

I did not go to the interview and passed on them. Way too much of a bad rep on here. Anyway...no idea who the cp is now.
