Oh Delta XXVI - Delta pilot calls controller an idiot

And for future reference on weather days I know yall want to know how long the delay is going to be but the answer is “• if I know however long it takes for someone to be willing to fly threw the weather.” We don’t know when or if center is going to open a gate or what kind of in trail they’re going to need.
Honestly I find that when there is unnecessary snark on the radio you can't be surprised that it will eventually come back at you. If the answer is "we have no idea but we are working on reroutes as they become available" that is a perfectly viable response and is honestly something we can communicate to our passengers. It wont necessarily make them happy but it will at least show that people are working the issue and hopefully help the FAs as they are the ones having to work face to face with the people. Unlike money, this stuff trickles down. (sorry, had to keep political theme intact).

Also, it is really annoying when you tell the FAs to do a water/food service for the DOT delay only to be told you need to start engines and launch now! We have things we need to do other than monitor our gas.

See, that’s where the misunderstanding is. His initial comment wasn’t snarky, the DAL pilot just took it that way. ATC eas just telling him he has no idea when he’ll be able to go and when DAL pushed it atc got impatient cause he’s got bigger things to worry about and that’s when he got snarky.

Perhaps snarky was the incorrect work. The controller was being a bit condescending or "smart" as a grumpy dad would say. Just say "we don't know yet" and move on. If it is intended to be a joke then it was delivered poorly.

The Delta love bros are out in full defense. Pissing excellence, as usual. :)

I don’t think it’s just Southern Jets employees. It’s mostly people pointing out you have a weird obsession with Southern Jets.

I wish United had called. Even if I went there in 2021 I’d be a line holding 757 captain. But I’m not disparaging United employees every chance I get.

It’s not as weird as a foot fetish that you’re constantly doing this but it is really weird.

You wouldn’t change, you’d complain there too. You think your days off suck, wait until you get globalization-ized.

Yikes  Maybe my DGAF meter is off the chart but I don’t understand how some folks let ATC or other people in the operation get them so spun up. I refuse to be complicit in someone else’s crazy, unprofessionalism, etc.

Lately it seems, as we move further into summer time meltdown season, that my job is mostly to calm my FOs down from their self induced rage fests over every little hiccup or delay. Normally if they were senior to me I'd be all for encouraging it but they aren't and at this point the FO having a heart attack because he raged over the lack of wing walkers at midnight in a small outstation is just more paperwork I don't want to deal with.

The worst offenders, though not exclusively, are the ex-military ones who haven't yet learned to appreciate the concept of "paid by the minute" and accepted it as their mantra in life for how fast they move at work. Meanwhile I just sit in the left seat channeling the energy of my spirit animal, the three toed sloth. Maybe if the FAA won't give me my certs back I can go work at the DMV...

They’re probably working too much.

But then I spend most of my time in the ICAO environment so there is very little space for editorial comments. I can’t remember the last time I got mad about flying. Now one of the other positions, sometimes that souvenir Dodger ‘bat day’ bats would come in handy.

This is a good point. You already know that Daegu is going to put every KAL flight it can possibly find in front of you on the arrival, and that Tokyo is going to turn out off the arrival so they can get the JAL flight that is 30 miles behind you in front of you, so there is really no reason to stress about any of it when it happens.
