I get that. I’d assume (@NovemberEcho can confirm?) that ATC is aware of the 3 hr DOT rule. Jabs - from ATC or pilots - should have no place on the radio.
 
I mean, even though I was tempted to use my "dog pinching a loaf" gif that I often use for CC's poasts...it finally hit me with this one and now he has convinced me to hate Delta forever. Even though I flew them a lot in the before times because ATL connections on DAL featured those refreshing smoking rooms that allowed everyone to judge you and AA connecting through aDFW did not. But now I am officially DONE! They are not even ahead of corpies. Or something. Congrats CC. Your jihad has been successful.

I’m equal opportunity. Not my problem my shop just doesn’t seem to make the cut on VASavaition. You have to admit, Delta makes it far more often. Even more so than American. It seems AA gets 2nd place on VASaviation. United and others make it less so.


If there’s a VASA video for my shop I missed, my bad. I would gladly post it.


It’s just that Depta attracts a certain crowd. They are known in the industry for their arrogance, and it ends up showing on the radios for the nerds to capture and share on YouTube. That’s just fact. Just look at Dergs comments about the 1st and 15th. He had to make it about a paycheck. Typical Delta arrogance.

Newsflash, Delta isn’t the only one with impressive paychecks. Not germane to the conversation anyway. Honest question, why is it of all the pilot snappy/flipping out stuff, Delta makes it most often on VASAviation?
 
I mean, taxi fuel is on the pilots/dispatch, not ATC.

How many pilots just accept that 600-800 lbs fuel for taxi on a 737/320 family at LGA/JFK/EWR on a WX day with delays? One quick phone call and that can become 1500 lbs taxi.


I look at it this way - this is a $500-600k+ job. I have a high tolerance level for crap going sideways. No point calling someone an idiot on the radio - you’re paid enough not to. It’s NYC with weather? Yes, now to midnight is a valid answer. Once those departure gates close with no WX letting up, they literally have no guess when it will open and when you can go.

You would have looooved TWA and Pan Am pilots back in the day. If arrogance is your bugaboo.
 
I have been doing more EWR/JFK/LGA flying lately than I have on average and the chaos has been worse than I remember. I used to only avoid these airports in the winter but its getting to the point of having to avoid them in the summer too lol.

Summer SWAP has always been a thing for NYC area but between more extreme weather and staffing issues (especially EWR and ZNY) it’s been particularly bad this summer, with this last storm probably the worst I’ve seen in a long time.

Level 6 precipitation used to be a rare thing to see and only deep inside big thunderstorm systems but now we get entire bands of level 6 roll through and it doesn’t dissipate quickly. There’s not even a way to pick your way through the storm systems we’ve getting the last few summers. Anyone who doesn’t believe in climate change just needs to watch like 10 years of weather radar replay on time lapse and note the difference of what’s “the usual” becomes.

And for future reference on weather days I know yall want to know how long the delay is going to be but the answer is “• if I know however long it takes for someone to be willing to fly threw the weather.” We don’t know when or if center is going to open a gate or what kind of in trail they’re going to need.

Anecdotal evidence is the worst kind (not that were suggesting it), but anytime I'm even slightly tempted to, you know, "question the political orthodoxy" on climate change, I wind up having a look out the window when flying over some of the places I used to bump along in a single engine Cessna and see multiple 60k+ monsters that would have ripped the wings off of that thing right about where a relatively benign level 4 would have just been having me pooping my Pampers, back then.
