NWA Ground Crews Walk Off The Job at MSP

A girl works for me now cleaning carpets on airplanes and in her native country her job was with the ministry of finance doing statistics. She told me she makes over double now than she did there with her degree in finance.

So be it! :) Seriously. If people didn't book airlines that were having labor problems, it'd add a lot more fuel to the fire not to have labor problems and both sides could negotiate more effectively... in my weird way of seeing things.

The "tool" of a work action/strike isn't the actual strike, it's the threat of the strike and the economic impact.

Labor 101.

I have respect for what these men and women do, but it's just like the auto industry - they have a low skill job that just about anyone can do, yet they insist on resisting the pay shift that just about every sector is experiencing. In the end, they'll probably lose their jobs and pensions - but they'll still have an active union card.

Haha, and I think it's fun watching you get your panties in wad over it. Anyone with a third grade reading level or above could tell you that I wasn't "complaining" about uneducated workers. I simply said that that people who are easy to replace shouldn't expect to be paid high salaries. If I had more time I'd try to put together a sock puppet play to explain it to you, but alas, I do not.

C'mon Doug - my reasons for flying them have nothing to do with the fact that they are non-union. I fly them because I get a lot of value, because I like the airline, and because the employees are well treated. That's why they earn my money.

If they are happy because they are non-union, that's their thing. Doesn't have anything to do with me.

When you don't clearly explain what you're trying to say and my users "get their panties in a wad" over what they thought you said, the problem isn't with their reading comprehension.

The people who don't know the man behind the funny avatar, the name "Murdoughnut" and, in my opinion, a slightly bombastic "Marie Antoinette" view of the plight of the employees involved in the short-lived protest in MSP are going to form their opinion (and reaction!) based upon what you write.

No, actually I think most people are underpaid today, at least when compared to ten or twenty years ago based on the cost of living/salary spread. But like I said, it's the market that dictates wages, not some greedy CEO standing atop an ivory tower.

It's easy to snarl at NWA and similar companies, but the only salary that is too low is the one that affords you too few potential employees to run your business efficiently. Business 101.

I respectfully disagree - when a person says I spend an entire thread "complaining" about "uneducated employees" based on a single post amidst several elaborations, I believe they have a reading comprehension problem. Go back over my posts and you will clearly see that I do nothing of the sort - I simply made the argument, from the beginning, that people who are in jobs that are easy to replace, aren't in a position to complain about their wages.

And by the way, I sympathize completely - but I sympathize for them like I sympathize with the fat girl trying to get a ride in my C172. I wish I could change both the laws of economics, and the laws of physics, but I cannot. I hope conditions for these workers improve, but I predict they won't until their jobs become more scarce.

This reminds me of the transit workers union strike in NYC that took place for several days around the holiday season. 20 minutes I can understand, but days is counterproductive.

What's bothering me is why deny the work stoppage and then have the media show it on tape to prove it?

Because NWA wants their customers to think everything is hunky dory out there and that there is no reason not to fly NWA.

I appreciate the advice and apologize if I've been a bit too aggressive in my defense. But I think most people had the sense to recognize that I wasn't attacking low skilled employees, even those who disagreed with my points.

Your point is noted, however, - thank you.
