Non-revving in First, and Facebook

Why not? The 10 year captain isn't working for Delta. The ramper is.
This is a similar entitlement issue that plagues 9E right now, so much as some people have been told no in their SSP interview because of it. While it may not be right it's the way it works when you are a contractor and it always has been that way.

i don't see why there is even an argument....it's something you know when you sign on for the job. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

I don't mind seeing it on facebook from pilot friends; seeing it from rampers kind of pisses me off.
You know those guys are becoming fewer as they all lose their jobs to contractors. I ramp part time while I flight instruct in college for DGS just for the travel. And let me tell you, the contracted out tampers bust their asses for the flight benefits. It's the only reason they do it, and soon those benefits will disappear as well.

He doesn't understand that, unlike many who had to work as rampers and CFI to get where they are at. Pass benefits are a big reason people do the small jobs.

I love travelling the US system, I've had a group of 5 suddenly list and bump me to economy, tis ok. Getting domestic first is great but rare, so am happy in 37E too.

If I could be a part-time US airline employee back home to get benefits in my own right that'd be great, not too likely though. The fact I can log on and list the night before and fly out, GlobalEntry and connect to another great state/city is amazing.

A college dropout throwing bags for delta for 1 month shouldn't travel higher than a 10 year regional captain flying a Delta colored plane. I can't nonrev anymore anyways, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Really dude. A) Seniority would mean a ramper with 1 month at the company won't bump a captain with 10 years if the jumpseat is open, which is a huge privilege that only pilots have(and rightly so). B) Again, really? Why the hell do you care? If you want to spend your career on the ramp and have 25 years with United and you bump a 1 year pilot or flight attendant, good for you, you earned it. Don't be a hater. Seriously. Can't believe that's your attitude towards people without degrees working "beneath" you.

By no means was I saying that all rampers are lazy. I was friends with @rd757 back when he was restocking planes, and remember when overnight his job ceased to exist. I understand the struggles. This thread was discussing how we feel about seeing nonrev pics on social media. I am talking about some of the specific lazy people I know and see on Facebook. (not @rd757 )

Again, that wasn't a broad statement, it was a specific one about people I know.

I guess it's not something I have to worry about seeing as I'm not a Pinnacle guy. But I'll bite, I know entitlement is the word to describe young pilots these days, but let me just point out that I work at an airline with no seniority list. One with zero work rules, tons of manual labor, and everything is performance based. I've been doing pretty well here, that'd be difficult for an entitled prick.

Still man, don't let it get to you. Senority is all these guys really have. Just let them have it, you know if that is their only source of income, the rest of their lives can't be all that great. Most of the career/long-time rampers I know are depressed people honestly, other than the few who barely work and hold other good jobs.

I missed the chance to throw this out there before the conversation got serious. Boo.

But seriously, I met strippers (before I was married) that were a semester away from their PHD and might be your kids doctor right now...You just never know who you are "looking down on"...

I have seen a non-rev who is an active flight crew member trying to get to work to perform flying for the carrier they were attempting to passride on, get bumped by a retiree of that airline, who now works for the competition and is flying on the flight in order to get to their shift for the competitor.

It's not always as cut and dry as some on this thread have made it out to be.

The scenario above is not one I dreamed up; it illustrates a large conflict of interest and a reason to support the notion that @Adler has tried to impress upon some of you: that perhaps the dichotomy of vendor employees and mainline employees is a complete sham, which most on this forum would generally agree with, but in the category of pass-riding, for some reason many find it appropriate that, for instance, a friend of a mainline employee who was hired last week will bump someone who has been flying the passengers of that company around for years under the Connection/Express/etc. moniker.

Unfortunately, that is what happens when you are a subcontractor. Your management negotiates your pass benefits with the mainline partner. Some managements care about such things, some, not so much. If you go to work for a specific airline for the pass benefits, you might want to re-evaluate some decision making skills. That includes mainline jobs too.

Honestly, the non-rev selfie is just the start of it. Anyone with Instagram search #airlinepilot, #crj700(900), #e175, #(insert regional airline) and prepare to be amazed. No shortage of people documenting everything with a gopro or an iphone. Daily walk around selfie, delay selfie, captain is in the lav selfie, pre-start check selfie. It's pretty ridiculous.

I had a friend recently post a picture of himself flaunting he is in first class and he is in a SLEEVELESS SHIRT! WTF? I said something to him about it and his response was "there is no dress code and the gate agent didn't care...". I about lost it! Really dude! Come on and have a little class about you. You would be the reason we all lose the pass privileges. Idiot.

I've not seen any rhyme or reason to who gets upgraded. I've seen other carriers FA's get upgraded over same carrier pilots.

Oh, I'm pretty sure my personal doctor was. Giggety.

It's all about the cat videos.

Seriously, if it weren't for the cat videos, I think I'd quit the internet.

As for the other topic.. there are no small jobs, only small people who'd look down their noses at someone for being employed. You don't like the seniority system way of non-reving? Go work for AA where it's time-of-check-in (unless that's changed with the Airways merger..).
