Malaysia Airlines 777 missing

Satellite spots 300 floating objects
The objects are "potentially linked" to Flight 370, Thai state-run broadcaster MCOT said Thursday. FULL STORY

Can't we get some of there objects on a boat for inspection?

The problem seems to be the images are usually a few days old once something is spotted. The WX has apparently been a real PITA in the area lately so there goes another day. Yesterday was severe icing and turbulence with 1/2 mile visibility below 500 feet. I think these new areas of debris are probably whats left of the airplane. Its just a matter of getting to it before it drifts off to another position.

I keep hearing the sacks of crap on TV talking about "closure" and it makes me want to take my fist, ram it through the TV, and punch them until they can never speak again.

First, the odds of finding a human body intact after the crash and after the passage of this much time is very slim.

Second, the families have got to know that their loved ones are dead by now unless they are in denial. And that phase will pass.

Having a body to bury may mean that there's "closure" for the stinky colostomy bags passing as pundits on TV but that's about it.

Did anybody else happen to notice some of the stock footage inside a P-3 that's been making the rounds shows one of the engines feathered?

Sometimes they feather two when they're droning around for hours, I think.

My airline is absolutely teeming with former P-3 pilots, I'll ask one.

I know they did it on the electra. And since they're pretty much the same airplane. I'm think it was done on the DC-6 as well.

I think it's referred to as loitering an engine. I read something about it a long time ago but can't seem to find it now.

On the news cast last night (ABC?) it was reported that engines were feathered to increase loiter time during the search.

Yeah, but he wasn't out looking for subs for hours on end!

Why haven't they done air refueling out there by the search area so they can stay out there longer than two hours?

Wha? Same engines on the Herk, and you'd get a cross-eyed look doing something like that. Max endurance is something like 140kts at 20 flap...not sure where the "max endurance on 2-engines" performance chart is...

EDIT: As a side note, Herk endurance is somewhere in the 10-hour range, even at low levels. Usually a duty-day limit before a fuel limit.

On long patrol missions, they shut down two engines to conserve fuel.

The P-3 is not capable of inflight refueling. The P-8 does have that capability.

Well that explains it. I didn't know what aircraft they were using to search with. The news has shown just about every airplane doing something so I wasn't sure what they were using.

Side note, if I hear "Seven Seventy-Seven" or it was a "jumbo jet" one more time I might jump off a small bridge.

What do you want them to call it?
