Life at Compass

The latest plan I saw has 6 in November, 6 in December, 6 a week in January and February, and 8 a week starting in March.

That sounds legit.

Except I heard from my buddies at Compass that they didn't run a bid for upgrades for November or December.

Or, said another way:

They still can. Those numbers and dates are upgrade training start dates. The vacancies seem to run about a month and a half before upgrade class starts.

But your pic is correct, especially come April when the flows start leaving again.

I'll believe it when I see it. As bullish as I am on the future, I was once told that I was going to upgrade after 18 months, but instead got furloughed after 14. Then when I got recalled they said no more than another year or two before I upgrade, and had to bail after 4 years of stagnation.

So...I mean I'll basically believe it when they run the bids.

Oh and it won't be April when diasterville strikes! Didn't you hear, no hold backs this time!!!11

I hear ya. I'm just relaying what I saw on paper. Talking to the instructors, nobody has heard about the November class. I wouldn't be surprised if TSH is waiting till the VERY last day to start upgrades.

If we flow 20 guys a month and take 2 or 3 planes a month, we will need to train 30-35 captains a month to keep up. On top of training FO's. That is a ton of OE and Sim time. I think it is going to be rough on captain staffing come Spring and summer

Can you be given a work assignment on a scheduled day off, and be required to report for said assignment? If so at what compensation.

What @jtrain609 said as far as pay goes is correct. Key is unless you are on reserve or they acars you as a lineholder, it's pretty easy to avoid junior mans by doing one simple thing. ALWAYS LET SCHEDULING GO TO VOICEMAIL.

So I have a mid October interview at Compass and I guess if I was lucky enough to get hired I would be looking at a Jan or Feb class date. Do you guys think by then the opportunity for a quick upgrade would have passed?

Worry about getting hired first.

I'm not at compass, but I think their AA deliveries start around Jan/Feb, which means you won't spend much time on reserve. Upgrade is then dependent on attrition, which there will be plenty of, so you'll be just fine. There's 1000's of regional FOs around the country that have been in the seat for 5+ years. So anything less than that for you would be rather quick.

You also have the opportunity to be a flight instructor as a FO at Compass if that is something that interests you. So while you may be an FO for a little while longer, you have the option to take on additional responsibilities and further your career.
