Life at Compass

Has anyone here been interviewed or hired without having a degree? I hear they are pretty big on that and I am looking to submit my application next month. Also is it worth applying with around 1400tt or should I just wait for 1500 to submit. Thanks

Yes and yes. I interviewed without a degree (although they did ask if I was at least working on it...which I was). And I interviewed with 1475. They are filling classes for Jan. so as long as you can get 1,500 before then you should be fine.

How long is the typical call back right now for interviews? I put an application in last month and haven't heard back. 4500 TT, 2900 TPIC etc etc.

It was probably a few weeks for me but I was able to get an internal rec, that's when things seemed to start moving along.

This may have been answered in the last 50 pages but how does reserve work for you guys? Long call, short call? Can you proffer for trips in open time? Additionally how long should one expect to sit reserve in DTW or MSP? Thanks.

Right now, it's just a 2 hour call out. We have RAP periods, there are 5 I think. Usually it's RAP's 1 and 3 that get awarded which are start at 4am and 10am respectively (I think). Supposedly there is a long call section in the new contract but I don't know what the progress is on that. We don't have any proffering like Eagle does. You can call up CS and ask to be called first, but they use a silo system-- so guys good for 3 days are in one silo, the the lowest time guy in the silo gets called first. Guys on their last day usually get called for ready reserve but not always. There is AM and PM. I think the times float now, that is the start times can change depending on the need. I think you're released by 6pm your last day regardless, but I'm not sure.

Reserve time in MSP is probably 6-9 months once you hit the line. Guys in my class (Jan 2 DOH) just got awarded their first full line for MSP. A buddy in the very next class had a couple months with a line this summer in DTW but I think went back on reserve. And of course out here in LA LA Land, maybe a month or two.

If any of that info above is wrong, feel free to correct. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping reserve would be shorter with all the growth and attrition. Are RSV guys getting overnights? My biggest concern is having to foot the bill for lodging in base.

The longer you wait to apply the longer your reserve life will be. There was a time where guys were not sitting a full month of reserve in LA. DTW is senior as is MSP. We have a few posters here that could hold solid lines in LA but are on reserve in MSP and DTW. It's all about QOL for them and that is understandable.

You'll get everything on reserve.

Last month I had 8 nights away from home, a sprinkling of day trips, and five days when the phone didn't ring.

This month I really haven't worked much at all, which has been awesome. Hang at home, drink coffee, do the crossword and hope the phone doesn't ring.

I'm Jan 2, 2014 DOH as well and live in MSP. Next month will be my first one holding a regular line.

I would have been bidding around 25% in LAX for months now and holding a nice schedule, but didn't want to commute. If you don't want to be on reserve for very long, if at all, LAX is the place to be.

I'd be commuting from the east coast so RSV in either dtw or MSP would presumably be easier than LAX. Thanks for the info.

Congrats! Sean was ecstatic as well. Now get ready to work! Haha.

Just so potential new hires know, you can't take how long you will be on reserve our upgrade based on what it is today. The pilots currently at CPZ are a different era of hiring. For you it may be faster or slower based off the timing you're hired. Starting November its 40 new hires a month pushing you up the list. I cant say it has been like that this summer at CPZ so the wait times today are not the same as they will be in a few months. Also, add on top of that all the vacancies at the top of the list in DTW and MSP with the flows next year.

6/week in November for December training onwards from a couple of guys. But I don't know how accurate that is. That's almost 80 guys a month between new hires and upgrades.
