Life at Compass

I haven't heard this one, but it's hard to have a lightning strike when there are no thunderstorms.

My thoughts exactly. All summer with not a single lightning strike and now 2 AE birds with lightning strikes a day or two apart in October??

Oh look...another IROP event. Must be 4 phones ringing. Getting a tad ridiculous.

Honestly, I just don't even care anymore. If I need something from them I'm going to call them. Part of the reason they exist is to be a liaison to the flight crews. They crew flights, and they field inquiries from crews. If they can't handle both of those tasks then there is a problem. What kind of problem? Their kind of problem. If I need to talk to sked I am going to call them, and if they are too busy to be able to handle aspects of their job then maybe the company needs to budget a few more dollars for another on duty scheduler.

There are currently only 12 full time folks in CS,with usually 2 to 3 on a shift. The department is very junior as the turnover is quite high. One gets hired, another one quits, rinse and repeat.

But that's not a pilot's problem....turn over is high for a reason. Management needs to fix the problem of high turnover. Like Poser said, if I need to call scheduling I will. When an irop email goes out twice a week, it starts to sound like a joke and not the way an airline should be run.

Exactly. The turnover seems high even for a regional.

It's honestly not really the pilots that are the issue..a majority of the time they have valid, legitimate questions. It really shouldn't be a CS vs the crews kind of thing,as cheesy as it sounds everyone should be working together to run an on time airline. There are some folks who actually do care about our pilots QOL and want to see them get their time in and move on to bigger and better things.

well when FAs have to call to be released for the day even when their trip is finished while on reserve, I blame scheduling. :D

Yeah I know turnover is high (is it always is in sked), and that they only staff two or three at a time. Like barbie said, that's not my problem. I'm going to call them to get accomplished what I need them to accomplish. And no, you're right...it's not an issue with the pilots. Schedulers have a tough job that I imagine is a lot like herding cats...that are on fire.

There isn't much we can do on our end to make their lives better, that has to come down from on high. And really if we are getting multiple emails a week telling us not to call them because they are too busy, then that should be a pretty strong message for those who are on high, that maybe something needs to change in that department.

This isn't an airline of 400 pilots any more. Maybe it's time to find room for a new desk or two in SOC. In the mean time I'm going to keep calling them if I need something.

It's not even a hard job. Work within the parameters of FAR 117,book some hotels and go home. DX with 40 some flights at a time have a lot tougher job IMO

Can someone explain why one would pick Compass in today's market? They don't offer a bonus or a flow?
Can current employees explain the attraction as well as where are the guys leaving going to work?

If i was looking at Compass right now as an applicant I would look at

Living near LAX, SEA or within commuting distance (4 commuter hotels per month)
Expectation for short reserve time.
good work environment, not to many grumpy people here
Decent enough credit trips most months for lineholders
Still decent movement due to attrition as majors start gobbling up people from top and bottom of the seniority list - supposedly 30-40 leaving next month
Basically a only handful of lifers (less than 10?)
Flying the 170/175 and not having 50 seaters might have a sliver of stability compared to say going to a 50 seat only operator.
These are obviously just a few I could come up with on the spot, QOL is everything especially at the regionals, If people stop appyling I think maybe we'll eventually start to see some bonuses come back, bumping up first year pay to $35/hr was the first step, and people are still coming, so I guess management doesnt see the need to offer more at the moment, we'll see if that comes back to bite them in the backside in the coming months.
