If I catch any of you homo's walking around without your god damn hat on, I'll kill you. If you are not wearing the uniform blazer while in the public view, your a god damn disgrace to the uniform you're not wearing not to mention an embarrassment to our code share partners. They will be ridiculed at the shareholders meeting and told they can't keep their Compass bitches in line. Have some respect for the code share! the code share the doesn't care weather you can pay off those student loans and refuses to pay you a decent wage.

Did someone mistype airlinepilotcentral.com?

Seriously though, statements like "I'll kill you," whether in jest or not, aren't at all funny or appropriate. Take it elsewhere bud...

Why, when I read a Chief Pilot newsletter, do I feel like I'm being lectured too? I'm sorry but I'm not going to wear my hat when I go the the crapper.

We understand you're angry. We understand you post here as part of your anger management program. And yet, you may want to consider taking a deep breath and pulling yourself together. It's 2016, don't use "homo" as a derogatory term.

If you want to talk you're welcome to PM me. Hell, I'll buy the first round in El Segundo.

I don't really get how it's "coming from our codeshare partners". AA couldn't care less about the hat I thought, and as for Delta, well, they have all the Skywest guys that don't have to wear hats, so...
I wish our hat supplier had more comfortable hats. If you have an odd, misshapen head like I do, it's not so comfortable.

I wonder if I could get an alternate... does this meet our codeshare guidelines?

My name is Francis, "Any you's homos call me Francis and I'll kill you" and the reply from drill sergeant "lighten up Francis" A classic line from stripes, Bill Murray movie.
Jeez Compass guys need their "safe space" I suppose.
D!p Sh!....ts.

And what movie is calling members and fellow pilots on here "D!p Sh!....ts" from?

um, cool?

I re-read Gorsoon's post as if Bill Murray's character was lampooning Sgt. Hulka. I can see the humor in it.

I feel like I only see Gorsoon post when he is upset about something. Since intonation and tone can be difficult to discern online, I couldn't tell you were joking. I bet we'd get along just fine on a trip, but it's tough to get a read on you online.

A few -unrelated- questions:

1) Does anyone know what the monthly premium is for family health insurance?

2) How many hours (roughly) do reserve pilots fly a month?

3) For E175 operators flying under the AE brand, Compass will have the lowest hourly paid FO's with no 'sign on' and no 'retention' pay. Fast upgrade times seem to be a way to mitigate this. Yes/No?

Thanks!

1) Not sure for a family, but the plan I chose for single is around $80

2) Currenty an FO on reserve in LAX and barely get used. I've done 4 stretches of 4-6 days of reserve and I usually get a turn on the last day. More of my credit has come from airport ready as opposed to actual flying. A classmate of mine hasn't flown in two weeks.

1) Thanks for the info on the insurance. There is a huge difference for costs of single vs. family for health care - somebody out there must know what family medical is! ENY is $457/month. Single is $179 month - with a $750 deductible. It's cheaper - of course - if you go with a higher deductible. $92 a month, single with a $2500 deductible ($249 family). I'd really like to compare to CPZ premiums for a family - and what the deductible is.

2) Regarding LAX reserve FO - wow - that is surprising bad news regarding how little you are flying.

3)How long (+/-) does a FO in LAX sit reserve before they can bid a line?

4) Are reserves in SEA and MSP also flying this little? If so (and flying as much as possible is the goal), why wouldn't a new hire initially bid a base that is flying more and then when he/she could hold a line at their desired base - transfer?

5) Do low flying hours on reserve indicate that the airline is overstaffed? Or is this planned? Or is this cyclical - it could get worse/it could get better?

6) Fast upgrades seemed to be a key attractant to Compass. If on reserve for "X" amount of months with little flying, that is going to push an upgrade back?

Thanks for any responses. I've got multiple CJO's in hand and am trying to make some hard choices comparing apples to apples. Compass is my first choice for multiple reasons, however, if upgrade time slips, combined now with the pay/bonus/retention with other competitors, I might become concerned.

I appreciate the info on this Board - I don't know anyone at Compass, and am trying to make a life changing decision with partial information! Thanks again.

I don't have any info on insurance so I can't help there. Maybe someone else can chime in.

It seems like the majority of your questions are centering mainly around upgrade time/career progression. As an FO you can expect a few months on reserve but in all honesty it isn't going to affect your upgrade that much. A new hire coming in today with no prior 121 (not jumping the line) should expect about 18 to 24 months for their seniority to be able to hold the left seat. Factor in about 3 months for training and 3 months of not much reserve flying followed by a year of 85ish hours a month puts you right at 1000 when you would be senior enough to hold it anyways.

All in all I think Compass is a great place to be and would highly recommend coming here.

Either way multiple CJOs is a good problem to have. I hope things for you work out for the best.

2/4) Indeed. I was feeling really proficient after my IOE and was expecting to get used on reserve, but that hasn't happened. Looking at the projected credit of the reserves in other bases we all seem to have about the same, so I'd guess we're all having the same experience. That's just a guess though.

3) At this rate I'd think it'll take a few months. I'm just now seeing people junior to me on the reserve grid.

4) LAX is by far our largest base, also the flying is more fun because of all the places we go. I chose LAX for obvious reasons, I live in Orange County.

5) I have no direct knowledge here, but we seem to bottom heavy. Looking at the number of pilots to the number of airplanes we have then comparing that to other carriers leads me to believe we're overstuffed at the moment. Maybe someone who's been here longer could provide a better answer?

Lack of flying here in September can be attributed to getting less block hours on our Delta side due to 4 aircraft in heavy checks. As far as being overstaffed, the rumor is that we're gonna have a bunch of people punching out to the majors in the fall, so we can very quickly go from overstaffed to understaffed, and this is probably why we won't be seeing any new flying in the near future because the staffing situation is so fluid at the moment. For every captain that leaves, an upgrade needs to occur which is a minimum 1 month process, and for every FO that upgrades to captain you have to now fill that seat which we all know, from start of initial to getting on the line is at least 3 months. When you only have a two week notice for people leaving, you can see how easily it is to incorrectly gauge staffing models for the next month.

The pilot plan (family) employee contribution is 532.39 per month.

2) Regarding LAX reserve FO - wow - that is surprising bad news regarding how little you are flying.

This is actually great news. It means the airline is adequately staffed. Bad news would be FO's flying 90 hours a month, which to be honest is probably the direction Compass is heading. Reserve is pretty short at Compass, so your flying would pick up quite a bit after a few months.

3)How long (+/-) does a FO in LAX sit reserve before they can bid a line?

3 to 4 months.

4) Are reserves in SEA and MSP also flying this little? If so (and flying as much as possible is the goal), why wouldn't a new hire initially bid a base that is flying more and then when he/she could hold a line at their desired base - transfer?

Sure, people do this, but with reserve being as short as it is, I wouldn't recommend it.

5) Do low flying hours on reserve indicate that the airline is overstaffed? Or is this planned? Or is this cyclical - it could get worse/it could get better?

NO. Low flying hours on reserve indicate the airline is adequately staffed. With that said, I doubt the airline wants guys sitting reserve not working, so in the future I would expect usage to increase. American and Delta frequently change block hours, so yes, it's somewhat cyclical.

6) Fast upgrades seemed to be a key attractant to Compass. If on reserve for "X" amount of months with little flying, that is going to push an upgrade back?

You're too new to worry about fast upgrades. It will be there when you're ready.

Don't chase upgrade.

Endeavor is paying a ton of money for first year FOs, as are the AA WO's. The contracts are all pretty similar, so pick the one that is where you live, or a really easy commute.. Then go where the money is. Having the AA flow opportunity in your back pocket probably isn't a bad deal either.

Thanks to everyone who replied, the information you have passed along is very helpful.

$532 a month for family insurance is some serious coin! Especially on 1st year FO pay! Might be time to sell off the wife and kids!

I appreciate the perspective on reserve and upgrades. And as far as Endeavor and the AA WO's, from where I live, the commute to any of their bases would kill me. The bonus/retention money for these operations is all DFW and east. Nothing for those of us out west - interesting. I have respect for folks that commute any serious distance. I was in the back of an AA 757 last week, PHX-DFW, and it was miserable. There were 50 standbys for the flight home. No kidding - 50!

Thanks again for everyone's perspectives!
