Leave UAL for FDX?

I feel your pain man. That's a very tough call. I had a very similar decision to make about a year ago, except it was between AA and FX. I was 30 at the time and I'm a perma-commuter as well.

However, I had been at AA close to 2.5 years with almost 2000 people junior to me.

If I got the offers at the same time I would have chosen FX, no question. But I'll retire top 5 at AA and spend my last 20 years in the top 10%. That made the decision for me to not go to the interview.

Your situation is different as you haven't been at United too long. Makes it much harder and for that reason I'd at least interview if I were you.

Good luck.
Your post was the catalyst to me posting this. And my thoughts exactly...

That sounds awesome. Just remember that assumption is based on there not being another 9/11 type event, or merger, or bankruptcy, or who knows. That assumption is 100% true right now, but it could be 0% true tomorrow. Just ask the guys at Pan Am, or Eastern, or TWA, or fNWA/fDAL/fUS/fAWA/fCAL/etc etc how their future planning/retirement went...

Oh yea I'm not naive to that fact. But that said, FX isn't immune to future threats ether. It's really a toss up in this industry.

Are you talking about SFO or LAX? Southwest doesn't go to SFO from SLC. The LAX commute is worlds easier, but it's also a more senior base.
But they do SLC to OAK and you could still get to the airport via Bart. From my short commuting experience SLC to SFO was my easiest one to do....but like you said I have a lot of my metal in SLC.

Perhaps I am!

Just seemed to crazy to be true, but the OP reached out to me and he/she is legit. My apologies. Glad a good conversation ensued, hopefullly they are able to make the best decision for their situation.
phew, i was concerned you wouldn't be able to personally verify the authenticity.

All y'all getting up in arms about true or not, who's better, giving real advice.

I'm over here like: "I'll take whichever one you concede." #kthanksbye

No it doesn't. You're just being sensitive.

Sensitive? I get his point. It would irk me being a highly qualified pilot at a regional 40 (or plus), while youngsters in their 20s (you and I) get hired while others more qualified can't get a call and are doing everything right. I've said it before so I'm repeating myself but the whole system is just a crapshoot and, well, sucks. It's a system where many times more highly qualified applicants get passed right over and people less qualified get the shoe in.

'more qualified' is relative. clearly person A isn't more qualified in the eyes of the employer if they look at person A and person B and decide to invite person B to interview.

So hey guys along similar lines I've been tapping this ass:

The first one is great and the best part about it is that she's loaded and has a really nice truck and a cabin in Tahoe. The second one is is even more rich though!

Gah! Why is life so hard!!!

Problem with that is no mins, "qualified" is a joke of a term. Qualified these days literally means ATP mins. So no, a mid 20s getting hired at a legacy most likely had more so to do with their connections than it did being actually more qualified than a guy in his 40s at a regional with a degree and volunteer work.

You do realize pretty much every 20 something year old hired in the last 2 years has a degree, volunteer experience, Union/ Company experience as well. Hence why they are called. Connections help but alot of them are obtained through their volunteer/company work, not jumpseating. Sorry but that's what companies are looking for now.
