KCM versus Pilot versus "himself" versus them... or the system? WTF?

I get the frustration. Not sure what its with the TSA in Florida, they’re extra, for sure. BUT . . . many of have been dealing with the TSAs insanity since its inception and most of know when to just comply and walk away. The fact that he didn’t AND came back for round 2 after being escorted out by LE is a huge red flag.

My most frustrating interaction was in SFO years back. Going through KCM, I got randomed, and at that time when you got a random, it was literally a palm swab test and that was it, they didn't even look in your bag. They swab my palms, test them and it comes back positive for gunpowder residue. Uhhh what? So that sets all the alarm bells off, people come over, and they tell me they have to give me a full pat down. I comply. They do the pat down, then say they have to do a more invasive pat down. I initially refused and ask for a sup, get my FODO involved etc., and keep in mind, I was in full uniform about to operate a flight. They tear my bag apart and find nothing of course. I am extremely irritated st this point as I know I haven't handled a gun in months at that point. Some very high up TSA agent comes down and tells me that the machine sometimes mistakes hand moisturizers for gun powder positive hits. I freaking damn near lose my ish when he said that. I could not believe how I was treated simply because this stupid machine can't tell between explosives or hand moisturizer.

At the end though, what was I going to do? I got fondled even worse a second time, and went on my way. None of this is worth risking your career over.

Thing is, so what if you have gunpowder residue on your hands? If you have no gun on you, then it shouldn’t matter. Why didn’t they then just place you through the standard machine and put your bag through same, and if no gun discovered, be on your way?

I have a few of complaints about how I have to deal with TSA regarding security. Some things that make zero sense.

That was my logic. I said, if I just came from the gun range, is that illegal? "Well no, but you could have bomb making materials on you." OK so did you find any? "No, but that is why we need deeper searches."

It was total BS...

I lost my ID mid-trip and it was pretty simple. I knew my life would be a disaster for the next week, but I dealt with it.

Notify the duty pilot. Get a gate pass from the check-in desk, prepare for standard screening and “KCM is over THERE!” And the various hassles of not having an ID.

Or be an adult and don’t misplace your ID

Good lesson to stay off X-Hamster before work
