Kansas City PEPC

<staying true to form> I just wanted to say THANKS to everyone who posted their thoughts, ideas, experiences, two cents, etc. It was almost completely accurate and although it didn't help me feel any less excited, GREAT POSTS!

The process was quite painless and everyone was SO FRIENDLY! See ya'll in OKC!

Lefty, did anyone mention tenative class dates like they did in previous PEPCs? Or are they just saying we should wait for the FOL?

I'm packing my bag to catch a flight to MCI tomorrow, I can't beleive it's already time for the PEPC on thurs! Im excited!

They told our group that it would be about a month before we received our FOL... They had just finished filling the 1st quarter and were about to begin work on the second quarter. I wouldn't look at going until Feb-March.

we were all terminal people though...

As for the medical was the hearing test difficult? I heard form some others the room often has background noise. Is it a standard test where you listen in the headphones and hit a button when it beeps, and if so was if hard to hear? I don't think I have a hearing issue but the last time I took that test was about 5th grade.

I was going nuts during this test... It's a quiet room. However, I couldn't tell if I was imagining the noise or actually hearing it. When in doubt...I pressed the button.

i was with the 11/17 group, 8 AM... overall the PEPC went well. i was out at 1:15 PM. i thought i was going to be out earlier when the last item i had to do was go upstairs for the security part (i had e-qip completed). it took an hour for me up there because a line formed with people waiting on electronic finger prints. so overall it ended up taking just about as long as i expected.

did anyone else have the doc with the shaky hands for their medical? after being hooked up to electrodes for the EKG, when i was getting my physical he asked me to un-button my pants then asked, "Do you have 2 testicles down there?" while his hands were shaking like crazy. little awkward to say the least.

also, as a guy from chicago, i must compliment KC on their high-quality bums out there. there's a good amount of 'em out there that are pretty "interesting."

Here's a quick off-topic story about a K.C. bum...

A buddy and I were coming home some seven or eight years ago, and he was just the biggest humanitarian...

He decided to pick up this bum heading North near the Broadway bridge, who happened to be carrying a rather large bag (maybe a guitar?).. We drove for about twenty minutes before my friend, being the conversationalist he was, inquired as to what was in the bag. The bum's response: "NONE OF YOUR F****** BUSINESS!" A little scary to say the least, the conversation went to hell, things got a little scary, so the genius asks again, "We'd really like to know, just in case we got pulled over, if you were carrying anything illegal." This just enraged the guy more, "NONE OF YOUR F****** BUSINESS!" We proceeded to drop him off at the nearest exit, and in our fear of being sliced into itty bitty pieces, sped off.

Worst part: my buddy got so nervous that he drove off with the bum's bag still in the back of his Jeep!

is there a place for everyone to put their bags, or should i leave everything at the hotel front desk? only reason i ask is I'm staying at the Hyatt (a cab ride away).

how long did it take you guys? i thought it went by way quicker than expected..i had a 7 am start time and got out by 11 am so only 4 hours.. and alot was either just waiting around for an escort or waiting for them to get the station setup..i was the first one for a couple things ( like the drug test, hearing, and EKG) so they were still workin out the kinks..took about 20 minutes for the lady to work the stupid machine..but other than that i was impressed with how fast it went..

I was in the 7am group too....it took the lady like 20-25 mins to electronically finger print me. When I went in for my psych exam I got to listen to the examiner and HR argue about weather or not they needed my signed TOL present when I took the test....

does anyone know if they can still pass you if you have blood pressure medicine?

The lady that did my ekg and blood pressure with the doctor said that the faa would send you to a doctor near your home to monitor your blood pressure if it was too high at the pepc. She made the comment that they have accepted people on medication. I was fine thank god!:rawk:

I just got home from my monday pepc and it was a great little operation. It ended up taking me about 6 hours with the only waits coming with the medical. Different parts of the medical are on different floors so you run into some waits with waiting for escorts and lines forming. But if a big line starts to form somewhere they'll try and move you along to something else. For example, I ended up doing my MMPI mid-medical. The hearing test is in its own room, but occassionally somebody will walk in and out mid-test and the door will make a lot of noise.

I stayed at the holiday inn aladdin and just walked to locust. So if you're staying at a hotel in that area about 1/2 mile away (hotel philips/marriot/holiday inn) it took me a little over 10 mins to walk it.

The interview was great. I got a gentleman named Bill who has been in the FAA since '73. The questions are right off a sheet and almost exactly what was posted here to review. Through out the entire interview he took some notes but mostly just conversed. He was very helpful and answered all of the questions I could think of for him. Although I am sure there are many more that didn't come to mind at that time. My interview took about 30 mins and was no big deal. As someone posted earlier, everyone was very helpful and it seems like they really enjoy their work. Just go answer their questions and have fun with it.
